EXCLUSIVE: Arjun Kapoor opens up about saying NO to films and seeking therapy in his bad phase; Clarifies that he was not 'struggling'

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I have always admired Arjun Kapoor for his resilience and determination. His recent interview with TopMob was nothing short of inspiring. The man who played Danger Lanka in Singham Again, showcased a different side of himself, opening up about his struggles and how he dealt with them.

In a recent movie titled “Singham Again,” Arjun Kapoor portrayed the character of Danger Lanka. His performance was chilling, earning him praise from viewers. The film, which combines elements of cop and action, is currently thriving at the box office. After the release of Singham Again, Arjun Kapoor shared an exclusive interview with TopMob, discussing the challenging period he faced in his life and how he managed to overcome it.

Arjun Kapoor Talks About Rejecting Films And Seeking Therapy

In an interview with TopMob, Arjun Kapoor candidly discussed the films he chose not to do. He explained that after 12 years in the industry, he has gained enough experience to turn down roles when he doesn’t feel comfortable or confident about them. He admitted his desire to work, but stressed the importance of avoiding mistakes by not being too eager to fill his schedule out of desperation. In the past, he had signed films merely to keep himself busy. It’s tough to say no because one wants to be on a set and working, but he acknowledged that it’s crucial to avoid letting personal struggles impact decisions.

He added, “I embarked on therapy and at some point, I understood that I must learn to love myself once more. It’s time for me to take care of myself again. At times, seeking solutions outside oneself isn’t sufficient. One should delve within. When you’re on a film set and moving about, living, you often seek external validation. I felt the need to explore myself. I was keen to discover why there are so many unresolved issues within me, whether they stem from loss, rejection, or avoiding certain matters.

Arjun Kapoor Says That Rejecting Films In The Bad Phase Of His Life Wasn’t Particularly Bad

Arjun Kapoor explained why he declined several films that were offered to him, stating, “I believe that if I had said yes to those movies at that particular moment in time, I wouldn’t have been capable of delivering a satisfactory performance. It was beneficial for me not to take on those projects because I needed to focus on taking care of myself first, so that I could better recognize what motivates me to accept a film role. The choices you make in this industry define you, even if you are offered 20 good films in a year, you can only do two. Your rejections and acceptances shape your identity. At that time, I was not ready to make sound decisions due to my personal turmoil. The movies I didn’t do were meant to be, and I am confident it was a good decision for the film as well because I wouldn’t have been the actor they expected me to be, and I wouldn’t have given my best performance because I had too much on my plate.

Arjun Kapoor Asks Not To Equate His Low Phase To ‘Struggling’

Host Himesh Mankad labeled Arjun Kapoor’s challenging period as a struggle, but Arjun, mindful of his privileged upbringing, set him straight and explained, “It was a phase, not a struggle. I didn’t struggle. I don’t like to use the word ‘struggle’ casually because it turns into a competitive analysis. It wasn’t my finest hour, but failure is an inherent part of life. You can’t avoid it; you have to acknowledge and accept it.

Arjun Kapoor Talks About Having Seen Highs And Lows Within His Extended Family

The actor from Ishaqzaade shared that he grew up in this industry and witnessed its highs and lows, having two uncles who also experienced their own share of successes and struggles. This perspective made him understand that success isn’t something to be taken too seriously, nor should failure be seen as the end of everything. He believes it takes time to overcome challenges, and since he has managed to do so, he doesn’t dwell on how he achieved it. Though it was a difficult period, everyone faces tough times.

Arjun Kapoor Shares How Failures Helped Him

Reflecting on past oversights, the Gunday actor admitted that he had taken certain aspects of life for granted during his struggles with failure. He went on to say, “I began focusing on personal growth. These repeated setbacks opened my eyes to my mistakes in underestimating this profession. Now that I’ve found my footing and am receiving quality work, I will continue to do so.

He explained that setbacks are rich sources of insight. At that moment, I wasn’t at my best. However, I can’t lay the blame on anyone else; it was up to me to find a way to overcome these challenges. It turned into a valuable life lesson from which I learned. Of course, friends and family are there for support, but I’m quite pragmatic and I tend to think things through myself. My failures didn’t prompt resentment towards others; instead, I found a resolution by tackling the problems head-on.
