As a long-time fan of Full House and Dave Coulier‘s comedic talent, hearing about his battle with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma has been quite a shock. It’s heartbreaking to see such a vibrant and funny individual face such a challenging journey. However, I have to admit, the way he’s approached this news is truly inspiring. His decision to be open about his diagnosis, to wear his hat as a symbol of strength, and to keep a positive outlook in the midst of it all, shows not just resilience but also a deep love for life.
Full House star Dave Coulier has been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
In October, the actor-comedian received a diagnosis following an upper respiratory infection that resulted in swelling of his lymph nodes. His physician then recommended he undergo PET and CT scans as well as a biopsy.
Three days afterwards, my doctors contacted me again and informed me that I had a regrettable piece of news – I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, specifically the B cell type, which is known to be quite aggressive, as he shared in an interview with People magazine, where he disclosed his diagnosis, published on Wednesday.
He mentions, “What started as a minor head cold for me developed into cancer, which was incredibly intense. This experience has felt like an unexpectedly swift and turbulent rollercoaster ride.
65-year-old individual, who swiftly teamed up with his medical friends and wife to confront cancer directly, reveals that the results of his bone marrow test turned out to be negative. This news increased his chances of curable treatment from a low percentage to around 90%, making it an incredibly positive day for him.
Apart from that, he’s already finished the initial round of six chemotherapy sessions, and in anticipation, he’s decided to shave his head.
In the YouTube edition of Wednesday’s “Full House Rewind” podcast that he co-hosts with Marla Sokoloff, Coullier is seen wearing a hat while discussing his diagnosis openly.
“I started the podcast wearing a hat, and I said, I’ve always been a man of many hats, but this hat has special significance because a couple of weeks ago, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” he tells People. “That was really a conscious decision of, I’m going to meet this head-on, and I want people to know it’s my life. I’m not going to try and hide anything. I would rather talk about it and open the discussion and inspire people.”
Coulier expressed that he’s making an effort to maintain a hopeful perspective, considering his medical situation, especially for the sake of his wife and their soon-to-be-born son, Luc.
He stated that he observed the impact of those words on Melissa, and in response, he decided to show resilience not only for himself, but also for her.
More to come.
