Michael Strahan Addresses National Anthem Backlash

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in military-themed video games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, I can wholeheartedly vouch for Michael Strahan‘s unwavering respect and admiration for our brave military personnel. Having grown up on an Army base and with family members serving in the military, his life experiences have instilled in him a deep-rooted appreciation for those who risk their lives to defend our freedoms.

As a devoted admirer, I’m here to share some thoughts about Michael Strahan’s recent situation. He’s been facing criticism due to a video where it appears he didn’t place his hand over his heart during the National Anthem performance. However, he’s taken the time to clarify that this wasn’t disrespectful in any way but rather a moment of distraction, and I believe him.

During Fox NFL Sunday’s special Veterans Day segment on November 10, filmed at the San Diego Naval base, Strahan was observed standing alongside his co-hosts during the National Anthem without placing his hand over his heart, unlike his colleagues. This action sparked criticism and speculation that Strahan might have been trying to make a statement.

In a recent Instagram post, Strahan clarified that there’s nothing he’s protesting about. He emphasized that he doesn’t have any message to convey, but he wants everyone to know that his affection for the military remains unchanged. He has always admired the military and will continue to do so in the future.

Myself, I’ve been involved in numerous initiatives to aid veterans and soldiers. Since my childhood was spent on a military base with a father who was an army major, it runs deep within me. My family members, including my brother, sister, and cousins, have all served in the military. Being referred to as unpatriotic couldn’t be more misleading.

Strahan mentioned that he got carried away by the excitement of observing the young sailors and Navy SEALs present.

Strahan mused, ‘What an amazing thing it is to be so young and already have a clear goal like this.’ It’s quite a dedication, but you’re prepared to make that commitment for something that clearly provides our liberties, in essence.

When he noticed he hadn’t placed his hand over his heart, Strahan felt a moment of slight worry. “I thought, ‘Should I pretend to have put my hand over my heart later or should I just stand here politely with my hands in front of me?’ So that’s what I did, and that’s what happened.

If anyone from our military or veterans felt offended by what I said, I genuinely apologize as it was not my intention. I have deep respect for our military, considering myself a devoted admirer, and I hold those who have served, are serving, and will serve in high regard.

Amid the criticism, Strahan’s Fox Sports co-host Jay Glazer defended him on social media writing, “Let me tell you this, I don’t know if I have a friend who is more proud of his military roots than Michael, growing up on an Army base constantly talking about what he learned from his dad Major Gene Strahan and how his time there shaped him. I heard it CONSTANTLY, still do! But also, with no fanfare I personally saw him donate thousands of dollars of clothes to veterans, including many homeless veterans as well clothes for veterans to go on job interviews.”

In honor of Veterans Day, Strahan acknowledged his father: “This is my hero – my dad, Major Gene W. Strahn Sr. He served for 23 years in the army, a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division. Just as I pay tribute to my father, I hold each and every one of you in my daily thoughts. We wouldn’t have the security and liberties we value without your service. Thank you.
