After Chicago P.D.'s Miserable Cliffhanger For Torres, Here's What Actually Made Star Benjamin Levy Aguilar 'Really Happy' Behind The Scenes

As a gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating through virtual worlds and tackling complex narratives, I can confidently say that the latest episode of Chicago P.D. was a rollercoaster ride that rivals any game I’ve ever played. The tension, the twists, the cliffhangers – it was all there, masterfully crafted to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Chicago P.D.’s current season, titled “Contrition,” which is available to stream with a Peacock subscription.

In the television schedule for 2024, the initial part of Chicago P.D.’s twelfth season is nearing its conclusion, and things took a turn for the worse for Torres in the episode leading up to the fall finale. His hopes were high that Gloria was genuinely out of the game during an investigation, but he soon discovered she’s a significant player instead. The episode was engaging television overall, but it was undoubtedly a tough one for Torres to get through. I’m relieved to know that actor Benjamin Levy Aguilar found something to be pleased about in “Contrition.

In a challenging predicament, Torres recognized that his career and personal liberty could be jeopardized if Gloria revealed their former romantic history. Meanwhile, Burgess faced a similar dilemma following her promotion to detective, as she concealed a secret of her own. Matters became even more convoluted when Cook embarked on his first undercover operation. Actress Toya Turner wasn’t joking when she said her character was ill-prepared for the situation! The episode concluded with Gloria driving away with Cook, who had been unmasked as a police officer, in the passenger seat, having pieced together the truth. Remarkably, Torres’ secret remains undocumented on tape because at the last second, Burgess interrupted the feeds.

In summary, Cook’s fate remained unclear, making the episode potentially more detrimental for her character. On the other hand, Torres seemed consistently unhappy throughout, with his past issues resurfacing. The episode ended on a dramatic note as Torres pursued Gloria’s car while a gunshot echoed, setting up a typical “One Chicago” cliffhanger. A positive aspect of this turbulent episode was the return of guest star Yara Martinez, whom Benjamin Levy Aguilar found it easy to collaborate with in the past.

During my recent conversation at the NBC’s One Chicago press event, Aguilar expressed his joy about having Martinez return to the set, even though their on-screen storyline wasn’t particularly pleasant, by stating:

Since the first time she graced our presence, everyone felt an immediate connection, exclaiming, “We must invite her again! She’s extraordinary.” Her vibrant spirit and exceptional acting skills truly shine. Upon hearing she would return, I couldn’t help but feel elated. We’ve maintained a wonderful friendship since then. It’s simply delightful! Working together is such a joy that at times we struggle to suppress our laughter during certain scenes, yet the experience pushes us as actors to new heights. Having her fully engaged in the project makes it even more exciting.

As a gamer, I can relate. With Torres carrying such heavy guilt before things took a turn for the worse with Gloria’s comeback, it’s no shocker he didn’t find humor during the case unfolding! The actor himself admitted that the enjoyable moments were when the cameras weren’t rolling, suggesting there was more to his character than what met the eye.

The laughing I’m referring to was off screen, because definitely no laughing in this episode. He goes through so much. He takes life so seriously, doesn’t he? And life has made it that way for him. He’s just trying to find a way to do right by a lot of things.

It’s clear that the current storyline aligns with the titles “Contrition” and “Penance.” The next episode, titled “Penance,” seems to be no less challenging for Torres than the previous one. However, Aguilar had additional compliments for Yara Martinez as a fellow actor.

Working with Yara is truly delightful. Her acting skills are exceptional, making our scenes together both enjoyable and enriching. Not only does she push the boundaries of acting, but she also fosters personal growth. Indeed, she inspires us all as performers.

overall, even though there were plenty of fun moments while we worked on this episode, I couldn’t help but point out to Benjamin Levy Aguilar that his character always seems to be in a tough spot, and he replied:

He does not. He does not. My heart breaks for him sometimes.

For Torres’ sake, we can only hope that the fall finale won’t end in a way that breaks Aguilar’s heart any more… and certainly hope for the best for Kiana Cook, who was in immediate danger at the end of “Contrition.” Unfortunately, the promo for the next doesn’t give away her fate either.
