As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for cinematic experiences that transcend the boundaries of pixels and screens, I am beyond thrilled to witness such a distinguished gathering of film industry legends being honored at this year’s SFFILM Awards Night. Growing up, I have admired the work of Demi Moore, Denis Villeneuve, Malcolm Washington, and Jason Reitman, their artistry weaving a magical tapestry that has captivated my imagination for years.


I’m thrilled to share that this year, I’ve been recognized among the esteemed group of honorees at the SFFILM Awards Night! Demi Moore, Denis Villeneuve, Malcolm Washington, and Jason Reitman are also part of this prestigious list. What an honor it is to stand alongside these talented individuals!

On December 9th, the awards ceremony, which celebrates exceptional filmmaking accomplishments and raises funds for an organization dedicated to fostering emerging talent in cinema, will be held at San Francisco’s Gateway Pavilion located within the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture.

2024 is wrapping up with great pride as we recognize this exceptional group of artists,” says Jessie Fairbanks, Director of Programming at SFFILM. Their skills and creativity significantly enhance the cinematic journey, serving as a constant reminder of the profound impact that film has on us all. Denis, Demi, Malcolm, and Jason are fearless, relentless visionaries. We eagerly anticipate celebrating their remarkable work at SFFILM’s yearly fundraising event.

Director Denis Villeneuve of Dune: Part Two is set to receive the Irving M. Levin Award for Film Direction. This honor is bestowed annually on film directors who are considered masters of world cinema, with past recipients such as Greta Gerwig, Ryan Coogler, Jane Campion, Chloe Zhao, Steve McQueen, Guillermo del Toro, Richard Linklater, Kenneth Branagh, Spike Lee and Werner Herzog, to name a few. The award is given in memory of the founder of the San Francisco International Film Festival in 1957.

This year, the esteemed actor from “The Substance,” will be bestowed with the Maria Manetti Shrem Award for Acting – an honor that has been given out since 1996 to recognize a performer whose film work showcases brilliance, independence, and integrity. Previous recipients of this award include the likes of Nicolas Cage, Margot Robbie, Oscar Isaac, Amy Adams, Kate Winslet, Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, and Robin Williams.

This year marks Washington’s first directorial venture with “The Piano Lesson,” for which he will receive the prestigious George Gund III Award. This honor is bestowed annually on an exceptional figure in world cinema, recognizing a visionary, regardless of their specific craft. Previous recipients include Stephanie Hsu and Cord Jefferson.

Additionally, it was announced that this year, Jon M. Reitman, who has directed and co-written Saturday Night, will be awarded the Nion McEvoy & Leslie Berriman Award for Storytelling. This honor recognizes the significant role storytelling plays in the creation of exceptional films, with past recipients including Roger Ross Williams, Sarah Polley, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Aaron Sorkin, Lulu Wang, and Eric Roth.
