As a movie reviewer with a penchant for pop culture and a keen eye for behind-the-scenes drama, I must say that T.J. Miller’s potential return to the Deadpool universe is as unpredictable as the fourth wall-breaking anti-hero himself.
Actor T.J. Miller is proposing a possible reprisal of his role in the Deadpool universe. In the first two movies, he played Weasel, the best friend of Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds), and owner of Sister Margaret’s School for Wayward Children (the name of his bar). However, Miller was conspicuously missing from the third film, Deadpool & Wolverine, which introduced the main characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It remains uncertain what specifically caused Miller’s absence, but it’s speculated that a combination of factors played a role, such as sexual assault accusations (which he denies), dropped federal charges for making a hoax bomb threat, ongoing struggles with substance abuse, and his decision not to return after a negative encounter with Ryan Reynolds on the set of Deadpool 2.
In a recent chat on SiriusXM’s The Bonfire, T.J. Miller has expressed a change of heart regarding his previous statement. Now, if Deadpool 4 ever materializes, he openly admits that he would be thrilled to join the project. Miller mentioned that he and Ryan Reynolds have been discussing their past, and there seems to be a renewal of friendship between them. He further stated his readiness to collaborate with Reynolds again in the future.
To me, it seems like he’s asking for something, and given how great a friend he’s been lately, I find the idea of his request being granted simply fantastic.
Previously, T.J. Miller accused Reynolds of being unkind and making fun of him during the filming of Deadpool 2. In 2022, Miller stated that Reynolds was “extremely cruel to me, specifically towards me, as if I’m Weasel.” It seems Reynolds made a jest about Weasel’s minor part in the second movie. Later on, Miller declared he would not collaborate with Ryan Reynolds again, expressing:
Am I open to collaborating with him in the future? Not really. While I hope he continues to excel in his role as Deadpool, I find our personal dynamics strange due to our differences.
Will ‘Deadpool 4’ Happen in the MCU?
As T.J. Miller campaigns for the next Deadpool sequel, it remains uncertain whether such a film will materialize. Recently, Deadpool & Wolverine has become a hit on Disney+ following an exceptional run at the box office. Yet, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm a fourth edition. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe brimming with forthcoming projects, finding a slot for Deadpool 4 in Phases 5 or 6 could prove challenging.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman might need some time off from their iconic roles. Although there was only a two-year gap between Deadpool and Deadpool 2, the collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine took an additional six years to materialize. Both actors have indicated their desire to reprise their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine respectively. What’s more intriguing is that both characters are thriving in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (although in a different timeline), and fans eagerly anticipate seeing them in the next Marvel production.
