Brett Goldstein Says Filming ‘Sesame Street’ Was “the Best Day of My Life”

As a die-hard fan of Brett Goldstein, I must say that his career journey is nothing short of captivating! The man is truly a chameleon, effortlessly transitioning from behind the scenes to the spotlight and delivering top-notch performances every time.

Brett Goldstein looks back very fondly on one day of his career.

The two-time Emmy winner appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers amid the release of Shrinking season two. During the conversation, he reflected on his time on Sesame Street.

On that day, I had the greatest experience of my life,” said the star of Ted Lasso, speaking to the host. “But here’s the challenge: Life goes on after such moments.

Goldstein jointly developed the Apple TV+ series titled “Shrinking” alongside Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence. The narrative revolves around Jimmy (Segel), a grieving therapist who, following his wife’s demise, begins to bend the rules and express his genuine opinions to his clients. Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Ted McGinley, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, and Lukita Maxwell make up the rest of the cast.

For season two, the comedian stepped into the limelight on-screen (beware of spoilers!), playing the role of Louis – a man struggling with alcohol addiction who tragically takes the life of Jimmy’s spouse.

“I’m not funny in this one,” Goldstein told Seth Meyers. “It’s a very serious part.”

He remembered the day he shot his initial scene alongside Segel, where Jimmy frequently yelled at Louis and essentially told him to leave him alone repeatedly.

The actor shared that since they weren’t sure about Jason’s demeanor, they remained friends while maintaining some distance. During the performance, Jason would yell and shout loudly, creating a very intense scene. However, he would also spray so much saliva on the actor during filming that between takes, the actor found himself unable to leave the set due to the mess. The continuity team then stepped in, saying there was an excessive amount of spit, and they needed to rectify it.

While crafting the scripts for the show “Shrinking“, Goldstein drew inspiration for the character of Paul (Ford) from his own father, who is battling Parkinson’s disease.

He stated that it wasn’t something they intended to discuss openly while discussing the show. However, Bill Lawrence accidentally mentioned it. So, I called my father and shared the news about him possibly having Parkinson’s, expressing my concern. My father, in a humorous response, asked if I was telling everyone he was Harrison Ford. When I confirmed this, he replied, “That’s pretty neat.

Each Wednesday up until December 25th, new installments of “Shrinking” will be released on Apple TV+.
