James Phelps Shares Sweet Thing He Learned From The Late Maggie Smith On Harry Potter Movies He Brought To Wizards Of Baking

As a hardcore Harry Potter fan and avid gamer, I must say that the upcoming Food Network show, “Wizards of Baking,” has me spellbound! The fact that James and Oliver Phelps, our beloved Weasley twins, are hosting this magical baking competition is a dream come true.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news for Harry Potter enthusiasts like myself! In the upcoming TV lineup of 2024, get ready to step back into the enchanting world of Hogwarts with Food Network’s Wizards of Baking. This magical baking competition series is hosted by none other than the talented Weasley twins, James and Oliver Phelps.

Approximately a month and a half ago marked the passing of Maggie Smith at 89 years old. Since then, numerous actors have been honoring her memory, but the Harry Potter community has been particularly sorrowful. Here’s what James Phelps had to say about his lasting memories of the actress who portrayed Minerva McGonagall in the films:

As a gamer, let me share a memory: The first time I truly connected with her was during our stay at a hotel up north in England, where we were shooting scenes on location. I mustered up the courage and approached her, introducing myself. She was engrossed in a book, but put it aside to give me her full attention. From that moment, I no longer felt like a child actor; instead, it seemed as if we were equals working towards a common goal. And so, whenever we stepped onto set for our show, I made it a point to greet everyone on the crew, just as she had taught us. This is something I’ll always be thankful for.

In conversation with TopMob, James Phelps (the actor who played Fred Weasley in the Harry Potter movies) shared that he will forever recall Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, as a highly professional individual. This professionalism was evident in her punctuality, often arriving ahead of schedule, and her consideration for everyone on set by giving them undivided attention. His initial encounter with her took place when he was 14 years old on the set of the first Harry Potter movie, The Sorcerer’s Stone. Notably, James Phelps made a point to introduce himself to Watson, who not only accommodated him but treated him as an equal.

As a devoted fan, I find myself echoing Daniel Radcliffe’s heartfelt sentiments about the remarkable Maggie Smith, expressed during an interview with Variety following her passing. Much like our beloved Harry Potter, Daniel confided in feeling apprehensive to meet her, only to be warmly welcomed and put at ease by none other than Professor McGonagall herself.

Talking to TopMob, the Phelps brothers revealed they are enthusiastic about food and had always enjoyed watching baking shows prior to being offered Wizards of Baking. During the show’s production, not only did they get to work on the sets of popular movies, but they also reconnected with some of their co-stars, such as Bonnie Wright, Evanna Lynch, and Warwick Davis who appeared as guest stars.

You have the opportunity to watch the debut of “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” by subscribing to Max, and every week, you can catch up with new episodes on Food Network (and their streaming platform) every Thursday.
