As a seasoned adventurer with countless hours spent traversing the mystical realms of Dragon Quest, I can wholeheartedly say that the Bard’s Riddles have proven to be one of the most intriguing and challenging puzzles I’ve encountered yet. The thrill of deciphering cryptic clues, exploring hidden nooks and crannies, and uncovering long-lost treasures is truly reminiscent of my quests in years past.
In the remake of Dragon Quest 3, players are presented with an intriguing test that combines wit and adventure: solving Bard’s enigmatic puzzles.
A mysterious bard delivers these cryptic puzzles, with lyrical clues guiding adventurers to hidden treasures scattered across the land.
This article guides you in solving the Bard’s Riddles.
How to Solve the Bard’s Riddles
Following your victory over Zoma and reinstating light in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake, a fresh wave of trials unfolds within the additional content after the main storyline.
This comprises the mysterious Cloudsgate Citadel, where a minstrel poses three thought-provoking riddles to the players.
After finishing the primary story, you’ll have to revisit the Castle of the Dragon Queen to eventually get to Cloudsgate Citadel.
Deep within the castle, a radiant beacon guides the way to an ethereal realm. Once you’ve stepped into this magical land, head north to uncover the enigmatic Hidden Cavern.
1) Progress through seven challenging tiers of adversaries, ultimately ascending to the pinnacle. Exiting the cavern leads you to Cloudsgate Citadel.
Upon entering, first make sure to acknowledge the King as a sign of your arrival, then proceed towards the north-eastern chamber in search of the Bard.
He will challenge you with three riddles, each describing a hidden treasure and its location.
Here’s how to crack each riddle:
Riddle 1
“Ohhh, what’s that ‘neath the trident in the sad, shattered town? ‘Tis a glitter, a glister, a star ‘pon the grooound?”
The first riddle describes a “sad, shattered town” and mentions something hidden beneath a trident.
“Theddon is a town renowned for its desolate look during the daytime. Drop by Theddon if you want to witness its eerie emptiness.
Make your way towards the southeastern sector of the town and step inside the church there. Once inside, look closely under the emblem resembling a three-pronged spear (trident).
After that, you’ll come across the Beast Claws. Deliver this artifact to the Bard, who in return will appreciate your deeds and provide you with another puzzle to solve.
Riddle 2
“Ohhh, a town in a land girt about with the dark… And there, ‘mid the flowers, a treasure, a spaaaark.”
The second riddle speaks of a town “girt about with the dark” and a treasure hidden among flowers.
This clue points to Cantlin, a town in Alefgard, a region perpetually shrouded in darkness.
Head to Cantlin and go to the house with a pond south of the central-western building.
Look around the flowerbed by this house, where you could have found the Broken Blade.
Investigate that area to find the Dark Cloak. Bring back this artifact to the Minstrel to gain access to the last test. (Informal, conversational style)
Riddle 3
“With his eyes on the skies, the stargazer, replete… With wonders above, see’th not those at his feeet!”
The third and final riddle hints at someone who is star-gazing upwards towards the sky, oblivious to the world that lies beneath them.
This riddle leads to Lozamii, a hidden village in the world map’s southeastern corner.
Locating Lozamii might prove tricky as it’s positioned close to a petite, solar-shaped signpost, which may be unfamiliar to those unaccustomed to the surrounding vicinity.
Once you reach Lozamii, go to the observatory on the village’s eastern edge.
I’ll ascend the stairway indoors and delve into the area on the star-gazer’s right side, in search of the enigmatic Sage’s Stone. Once found, I’ll bestow upon the Bard the last hidden treasure, thereby solving the riddles entirely.
Once you’ve deciphered each of the trio of puzzles, the Bard reveals a significant detail: A total of 110 mini-medallions can be found scattered across the globe.
Solving the puzzles won’t give you any physical prize, but this hint serves as an invaluable compass for those aiming to finish their set and unlock additional content beyond the main game.
