Moana 2 Has Screened, And While Critics Are Happy With The Disney Sequel, They Can’t Stop Talking About The Music

As a long-time Moana fan who grew up with the original film, I must say that the anticipation for Moana 2 has been like a wave, building and crashing against my excitement levels. Having seen a sneak peek of the sequel, I can confidently say that it’s not just another ride on the ocean, but a full-blown Polynesian odyssey!

Eight years have passed since Auliʻi Cravalho initially graced our screens in the movie Moana, winning over young audiences as the chief’s daughter who uncovered her true identity with Maui, a demigod, by her side. Now, fans eagerly await the release of Moana 2, where she is summoned by her wayfinding ancestors to lift a curse from the secluded island of Motufetu that was cast by the god Nalo. The movie is scheduled for release on the 2024 film calendar, specifically on November 27, and critics are already sharing their initial thoughts about Disney’s animated sequel on social media.

Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will once again embody their characters in the upcoming film, titled “Moana 2“. The latest trailer provides a glimpse of the formidable villain that Moana and Maui must confront. Additionally, it seems that we’ll be spending more time with the lovable character, Pua, the pig. Initially skeptical, TopMob’s own Sarah El-Mahmoud was won over by the first 30 minutes of the movie and now looks forward to it. What are other critics saying? Get ready for some fantastic “Moana 2” popcorn and let’s discover their thoughts together!

One issue that troubled our film critic regarding the movie was that Lin-Manuel Miranda wasn’t part of the soundtrack for Moana 2, unlike in the original where he played a significant role. This is now being handled by Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, which seems to be a point of contention for Chris Killian of ComicBook.com, although he did overall enjoy the movie, commenting: “I found myself enjoying the movie despite this change.

In this iteration, the tunes aren’t as memorable, but Moana and Maui remain an entertaining duo, dishing out side-splitting jokes and heartwarming scenes. Exceptional animation, exploring Polynesian culture in greater depth, Moana 2 demonstrates that it’s worth venturing past the reef yet again.

In the upcoming Disney films, there’s an interesting twist for Moana; she has a sister in the sequel. Moreover, it seems that Simea, played by Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda, is stealing the show with her captivating performances according to Joseph Deckelmeier from ScreenRant.

I found Moana 2 simply captivating! The animation was stunningly beautiful, and Moana’s talented supporting cast was a joy to watch. Her little sister was particularly enchanting for me. The narrative was solid and skillfully woven together. It’s a wonderful follow-up that left me smiling. I also couldn’t get enough of the catchy tunes!

According to Tessa Smith from Mama’s Geeky, Moana 2 undeniably succeeds, with an array of charming new characters, but it truly outshines in the scenes featuring Moana and Maui. In her own words:

The sequel to Moana, titled Moana 2, is nothing short of impressive! It’s filled with laughter, captivating music, and a whole lot of heart. This voyage across the sea promises another emotional and empowering tale. The animation is simply breathtaking! The new characters are fantastic, but the magic truly happens when Moana and Maui share the screen. Their witty exchanges are not to be missed! And let’s not forget that mid-credit scene!

According to Hollywood Handle, this world still seems as enchanting as we recall, yet the music isn’t quite as captivating as the 2016 animated film. On Twitter, they expressed this as:

In the second installment of Moana, Moana and Maui make their comeback, equally captivating as before. This sequel soars to greater heights, boasting stunning visuals and fresh characters who seamlessly fit into a heartwarming narrative. Although the songs may not reach the same level of brilliance as the original, there are still some catchy tunes to enjoy.

A different spectator who managed to watch a pre-release showing was Lan, who appreciated the tunes even though they acknowledged that they “certainly don’t match up to the quality of the initial movie.” Expressing their thoughts on the forthcoming children’s film, they wrote:

An amazing showcase of animated set pieces, I was in awe of the visuals the whole time! The songs are catchy & there’s a beautiful heart at the centre of the story. I enjoyed it!

The soundtrack of “Moana” was a significant element that won many hearts, so when Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear took over from Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s no wonder people will be making comparisons. Initially, it seems like the tunes are as catchy and delightful as before, although they may not quite reach the heights of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s 2016 soundtrack.

Keep an eye out for comprehensive reviews from critics, which will be published next week on TopMob. Stay updated!
