As a dedicated crypto investor, I’ve noticed that Sky Mavis, the innovative minds behind Axie Infinity, has decided to let go of 50 team members due to strategic adjustments following recent setbacks such as the hack and market fluctuations. This move is part of their broader efforts to adapt and thrive in these dynamic conditions.
According to TechInAsia’s report, Sky Mavis, the company responsible for creating the blockchain game Axie Infinity, has announced that it will dismiss around 21% of its workforce, which equates to approximately 50 employees. This move is part of an initiative to optimize operations and concentrate on essential products.
In a recent X post, Sky Mavis’ co-founder Nguyen Thanh Trung underlined that the company’s decision was not influenced by financial constraints. Instead, he described it as a “strategic maneuver”, aiming for a more focused and advantageous positioning of Sky Mavis to foster rapid growth in 2025 and beyond.
As a crypto investor and follower of Sky Mavis, I want to share some changes that are happening within the company. The difficult choice to part ways with some incredibly skilled team members was not taken lightly and does not diminish their valuable contributions to Sky Mavis. This decision was made in order to concentrate more effectively on our products and ensure we maintain the agility needed to launch Ronin in Q1. I understand that this may be challenging for those affected, but I believe it’s a necessary step towards our long-term success.

Trung additionally disclosed that Sky Mavis has no intentions to venture into new areas, instead choosing to intensify their efforts on what sets them apart as unique. Consequently, this game developer is concentrating on improving the Ronin wallet and growing the Ronin Network to cater to more developers. This announcement caused a 3.78% drop in the price of the Axie Infinity (AXS) token.
Established in 2018, Sky Mavis runs a system where players can buy creatures and simultaneously collect non-interchangeable tokens and in-game money. Unfortunately, in 2022, hackers linked to North Korea executed a complex phishing attack on the company, resulting in a staggering $600 million loss. As a result, Sky Mavis decided to transition to a free-to-play gaming model.
