‘I Was Terrified’: Bill Skarsgård Compared Nosferatu Transformation To Pennywise In IT

As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming remake of Nosferatu, especially with Bill Skarsgård taking on the iconic role of Count Orlok. Having followed his career since his breakout performance as Pennywise in It, I’ve come to appreciate his ability to transform into truly terrifying characters.

Bill Skarsgård, known as one of the top horror actors, has not one but two chilling films scheduled for 2024, although Nosferatu may prove more popular than The Crow. Despite his ease with dark roles, the process of metamorphosing into characters might tell a different tale. He confessed that transforming into Count Orlok in the upcoming monster classic was far more daunting and frightening than assuming the role of Pennywise in It.

Hollywood has been eagerly adopting fresh spins and remakes of monster movies, which has led to an exciting era for fans. As we anticipate more retro remakes, it’s delightful to witness beloved classics being rejuvenated. One highly anticipated revamp is Robert Egger’s modern interpretation of a classic horror, generating quite the buzz – and it’ll be hitting cinemas next month!

Critics have enthusiastically praised the film, finding it both captivating and frightening. Not just them, but Skarsgård himself has confessed that playing Count Orlok required a significant transformation. He even admitted that this role was more challenging than portraying Pennywise in the “It” series, and he was anxious about whether he could handle it effectively. In his own words:

As a gamer, when I laid eyes on that image, it sent chills down my spine. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen before, scarier even than Pennywise. I found myself questioning whether I could pull off a convincing performance under its watchful gaze. It seemed so alien, like a giant, lifeless prop, and I feared that my character wouldn’t feel authentic within it.

As a gamer speaking directly, let me tell you that the upcoming Dracula portrayal has got me spooked more than Pennywise from Stephen King’s IT. You see, understanding the psyche of a chilling vampire like Dracula is one thing, but putting on the costume and embodying him? That’s a different level of creepy altogether. Now, don’t get me wrong, Pennywise is indeed terrifying, but Nosferatu… well, he’s another level of intense fear.

Fortunately, Skarsgård managed to pull everything off, despite feeling quite scared. Upon first trying on the costume, he discovered his role as Dracula. He expressed it this way:

For the first time, I had a sensation that the camera was more than just an inanimate object; it seemed as if it could come to life, and I could merge with it. Later on, Robert approached me, and he said, “Ah, there you are.

I’m pleased to see that he managed to pull off the performance; based on what I’ve observed, I’m certain it will leave me amazed after viewing it. It’s truly astonishing to learn that this role was intimidating for him and yet he found a way to create something so spine-tingling. He excels at this and is highly sought after–he’ll be reprising the role of Pennywise in the upcoming Max It prequel series, which is part of our 2025 TV lineup.

Over the next few weeks, I’m eagerly counting down the days until December 25th when this new vampire transformation drops. Who knows, maybe the Eternals alum will once again give me chills with another spine-tingling character that might just invade my dreams!

If you’re eagerly anticipating seeing Bill Skarsgård in a timeless monster film, consider watching Pennywise, the monster from the movie adaptation of a book, in the It series. This series is accessible with a Max subscription.
