As a seasoned anime enthusiast who’s spent countless nights hunched over my TV, I must say that the upcoming winter season promises to be a treat for us fans! With the return of some beloved series and the debut of new ones, there’s no shortage of excitement.
2024 has been a fantastic year, particularly for anime enthusiasts, as prominent animation studios such as Ufotable, Production I.G., and Science SARU have served up some truly captivating storylines. Notably, enduring series like “One Piece” have maintained our interest over the years, but the introduction of fresh adaptations like “Wind Breaker”, “Kaiju No. 8”, and “Solo Leveling” have added a significant boost.
Although we’re nearing the end of the year, there are still several intriguing anime shows yet to debut, leaving fans on edge. But fear not, December is just around the corner, and with it comes the highly-anticipated shows we’ve been eagerly waiting for all year. Keeping that in mind, here’s a list of every anime series scheduled to premiere in December 2024.
‘Beastars’ Final Season Part 1
Streaming on Netflix on Dec. 5
The acclaimed anime series “Beastars,” known for its suspenseful thriller genre, is about to unveil its much-anticipated last season, but in a unique twist, it’ll be divided into two portions. Already, Netflix has shared the main trailer, updated voice actors, and numerous other insights concerning the initial part of the final season, set to debut on December 5th.
In the final season of “Beastars,” inspired by Paru Itagaki’s renowned manga, our protagonist Legoshi embarks on a new journey after choosing to live independently in the Beast Apartments. This decision stems from a distressing encounter with Riz. Concurrently, a ruthless figure named Melon surfaces, engaging in murder for personal gratification. Not only does this instigate Yahya’s pursuit as the current Beastar, but also endangers the lives of Legoshi, Haru, and Louis. The much-anticipated return of “Beastars” is set on Netflix starting December 5th.
‘Fate/strange Fake’
Streaming on Crunchyroll in December
For almost two decades, the war over the Holy Grail has unfolded in various stories, some even branching off from the initial Fate series. The latest addition to this extended tale is “Fate/strange Fake”, a sequel to “Fake/strange Fake: Whispers of Dawn”. This anime series, animated by Ufotable, continues the epic saga that has given us memorable films and TV shows such as “Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works” and the “Heaven’s Feel” trilogy. According to Crunchyroll, this new anime is summarized as follows:
In the aftermath of the Fifth Holy Grail War in Japan, indications point towards the appearance of a new Holy Grail in Snowfield, a western American city. True enough, Masters and their Servants, powerful entities summoned from mythology and history, have started to assemble… Unusual classes of Servants, impossible summonings, a country cloaked in mystery, and a city designed for combat set the stage for an unconventional Holy Grail War that plunges into the realms of insanity. Prepare yourself for a performance by humans and heroes, manipulated to perform on the stage of a phony Holy Grail.
Fate/strange Fake is scheduled to debut on Crunchyroll in December; however, the specific launch date hasn’t been announced yet.
‘Nights with a Cat’ Season 3
Streaming on YouTube in December
Not all anime shows need to rely significantly on visuals and character designs — some say a lot with minimal drawings and Nights with a Cat is a prime illustration of such an instance. The anime, released in August 2022 as an ONA (Original Net Animation) series, is based on a webcomic of the same name by Kyuru Z. This December, the series returns for its third season, with Ayahi Takagaki, Satoshi Hino, and Atsumi Tanezaki reprising their roles as Kyuruga, Fuuta, and Pii.
In this tranquil anime depicting everyday life, the diligent Fuuta finds solace at night by engaging with his sister’s quirky cat, Kyuruga. He relishes the challenges that come with managing Kyuruga’s erratic behavior and attempting to snap a good photo of him. Despite its difficulties, this interaction brings Fuuta immense joy, suggesting that such simple pleasures may be all one needs for a contented existence. Mark your calendars: Nights with a Cat Season 3 is set to stream on Crunchyroll in December 2024; however, the precise release date remains undetermined.
