As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit, hearing the potential return of a portable Sony console has me both excited and skeptical. The memories of the PSP and PS Vita are still fresh in my mind, yet tinged with a touch of melancholy due to their untimely demise.
It’s said that Sony might be developing a compact, handheld game console, potentially competing against the Nintendo Switch.
According to Bloomberg, it is rumored that the tech titan may be planning to develop a portable gaming device capable of running PlayStation 5 games. This gadget is an extension of the previously launched PlayStation Portal, Sony’s version of the Steam Deck, which enables gamers to enjoy PS5 titles on a handheld system through internet streaming. However, it’s important to note that if this device ever becomes available, it might be several years from now and there’s always a chance that Sony could decide not to release it at all.
Bloomberg mentions that a portable gaming device for PS5 games could broaden Sony’s market and make it more attractive since they are already venturing into mobile gaming, PC gaming, live-service titles, and other areas. This new portable system could counter the handheld console for Xbox that Microsoft is also working on.
Previously, Sony launched the handheld devices, PS Vita and PlayStation Portable, which didn’t achieve significant popularity in the market. Eventually, production of these consoles was halted.
