Drake Claims UMG, Spotify “Artificially Inflated” Kendrick Lamar’s Diss Track “Not Like Us”

As a long-time follower and admirer of both Drake and Kendrick Lamar, I find myself enthralled by this latest turn of events in their seemingly unending feud. Having grown up with their music shaping my own experiences and emotions, it’s hard not to be captivated by the drama that unfolds between these two titans of hip-hop.

Drake alleges that his ongoing dispute with Kendrick Lamar has escalated even further: He accuses Universal Music Group and Spotify of artificially boosting the play counts for a track by Kendrick that takes aim at Drake.

On Monday, Drake’s company, Frozen Moments, filed a lawsuit in a New York court accusing UMG (the record label both rappers are signed to) of intentionally promoting the song ‘Not Like Us’ across streaming platforms and radio airwaves to make it trendy. One of this year’s most popular tracks is titled ‘Not Like Us’. It held the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks overall, and it stayed at the top of the Hot Rap Songs chart for twenty weeks. This song has been nominated for five Grammy Awards, including categories like Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Beyond being just a diss track, it has evolved into an international symbol of culture.

In May, Lamar unveiled the catchy, West Coast hit single following a renewal of their feud in March. After exchanging diss tracks, Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” was released, where he accused Drake of being a pedophile and appropriating Black culture. The energetic track, produced by DJ Mustard, smashed streaming records, leading many to declare Lamar the victor of their dispute. Their rivalry started in 2013 when Lamar, who once worked with Drake and opened for him on tour, took aim at 11 other artists, including Drake, through his guest verse on Big Sean’s “Control.
