As a lifelong music enthusiast, steeped in the melodious tunes of the 60s era, this news about the upcoming biopic on Mohammed Rafi’s life has me dancing in joy! I can almost hear his soulful voice echoing through the decades, filling my heart with nostalgia and pure emotion.

Following the excitement surrounding the upcoming biopic of the legendary singer Kishore Kumar, music enthusiasts who cherished the ’60s era now have one more reason to rejoice! In a recent event at the International Film Festival of India, Mohammed Rafi’s son, Shahid Rafi, hinted that he plans to make an official announcement about a biopic based on his late father’s life, which coincides with his centenary birthday on December 24, 2024.

During the current film festival, a special homage was given to the renowned musician, during which his substantial influence on the music industry was explored. At a special event titled “Aasmaan Se Aaya Farishta—Mohammed Rafi: The King of Melody,” the legendary singer’s son announced plans for an upcoming biopic about the singer known for “Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai.

Additionally, it was disclosed that he is in talks with director Umesh Shukla about producing a film together. For those who may not know, Shukla has previously directed hit movies such as OMG—Oh My God! featuring Akshay Kumar and 102 Not Out starring Amitabh Bachchan.

He stated, “An announcement will be made in December. I am making a biopic on Rafi sahab. We are planning. It is going to be the life story of Rafi Sahab. Songs will also be part of the biopic. We have contracted with Umesh Shukla, director of OMG – Oh My God! and 102 Not Out. It will be a full-fledged feature film.”

Notably, esteemed figures such as Sharmila Tagore, a seasoned actress, Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Paudwal, talented singers, and Subhash Ghai, a renowned filmmaker, graced the event. They each offered their insights on the celebrated singer.

Mohammed Rafi was a renowned singer from India, known for his extensive discography of over 25,000 songs throughout his nearly 40-year career. His vocal performances of timeless hits such as “Yeh Reshmi Zulfen,” “Aaj Mausam Bada Beimaan Hai,” “Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe,” and “Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho” are still cherished for their enchanting melodies.

Back in the groove of the golden era of cinema, I was utterly captivated by Rafi Sahab, a vocal maestro who lent his voice to over a thousand films across various languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, and Hindi. In the ’60s, his voice reigned supreme, filling our hearts with melodies that still echo today. Sadly, he left us in 1980 after a heart attack, but his legacy continues to live on. A film chronicling his remarkable journey is long overdue and will undoubtedly be an unforgettable tribute to the man who has been the soundtrack of our lives for so many years.
