Our Little Secret Is Lindsay Lohan's Third Netflix Holiday Movie & The Best

As a longtime fan of Lindsay Lohan’s work and someone who has grown up watching her evolve as an actress, I must say that her recent string of Netflix Originals has been nothing short of delightful. The way she has embraced the holiday-themed movies and made them her own is truly commendable.

Has Lindsay Lohan shifted her focus towards heartwarming holiday films in recent years? From her breakout performance in The Parent Trap at the age of 11 to becoming an icon with Mean Girls in 2004, the actor was a rising star until personal turmoil took center stage and overshadowed her acting career. However, her fortunes changed when she landed the lead role in Falling for Christmas, a romantic comedy released on Netflix in 2022.

Lindsay Lohan’s film “Falling for Christmas” sparked a delightful bond with Netflix. Following closely was her film “Irish Wish,” which premiered right before St. Patrick’s Day this year, and on November 27, her third festive Netflix movie, titled “Our Little Secret,” made its appearance. In an astute business decision, Lohan is reconnecting with the audience from her “Mean Girls” era and captivating a new fanbase through the contemporary platform of Netflix movies.

In 1998, Lindsay Lohan made a splash with her iconic red hair in Disney’s movie “The Parent Trap.” She portrayed both roles of Annie and Halle, twins who were separated at birth and met at summer camp. This role paved the way for another successful Disney project, “Freaky Friday” from 2003. In this film, Lohan starred as Anna Coleman, collaborating with Jamie Lee Curtis as her on-screen mother, Tess. Their characters were based on Mary Rodgers’ book, where they swapped bodies to experience life from each other’s perspectives; this movie is still Lohan’s highest-grossing film.

After the success of “Mean Girls,” Lindsay Lohan convincingly played Cody Harrison as she adjusted to a new high school. Yet, her ascension to fame led to an ‘L.A.’ lifestyle that attracted constant media scrutiny, leading to episodes in rehab and tense court appearances. Rather than focusing on her work, the press primarily focused on her private life. However, Lindsay managed to land roles in films like “The Canyons” in 2013, directed by Paul Schrader and Bret Easton Ellis. A significant turning point in her career was signing a creative partnership deal with Netflix in 2022.

Many believe Hallmark reigns supreme in the realm of overly sentimental Christmas films, but ever eager to jump on a bandwagon, Netflix joined the fray and released the delightful romantic comedy “A Christmas Prince” in 2017. This film is set in the fictional European town of Aldovis, where journalist Amber Moore delves into the secretive life of Prince Richard. As you might anticipate, things unfold predictably. The Pittsburgh City Paper commented, “If you’re a fan of indulgent, low-nutrition streaming content, Netflix has prepared quite the festive dessert.

“Netflix saw a significant boost during the holiday season when they released ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ in 2018. This film centers around siblings Kate and Teddy Pierce, who attempt to catch an offbeat yet endearing Santa Claus portrayed by Kurt Russell on Christmas night. The production aimed to combine timeless traditions with modern elements, though many viewers prefer the traditional appeal when choosing their holiday viewing.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a warm, snuggly nostalgia during the festive season. Holiday films stir up cherished memories from childhood and create a serene ambiance that seems almost magical, especially when we watch them in the comfort of our homes. These blissful moments serve as a brief escape to an idealized past and present. Therefore, it is no surprise that Netflix has chosen to maintain this tradition with Lohan.

Lohan’s Comeback Collaboration with Netflix

2022 saw the debut of “Falling for Christmas” as a Netflix Original. As the festive season approaches, Lohan assumes the role of heiress Sierra Belmont, who gets engaged on a snow-capped peak. In an unfortunate accident, she sustains amnesia and is cared for by the proprietor of a lodge and his daughter, along with a character named Chord Overstreet. Amidst this, Belmont and Russell develop feelings for each other. Despite being quite predictable, it’s a delight for traditionalists. Although reviews were mixed, Netflix found it appealing enough to want additional installments.

2022 saw Lohan seal a contract for two movies. The first one, titled “Irish Wish“, hit the screens in March 2024. Rather than being a traditional Christmas movie, it’s more of a light-hearted romantic comedy for St. Patrick’s Day. Maddie Kelly (Lohan) harbors secret feelings for her best friend Paul Kennedy. When she agrees to be a bridesmaid at his wedding in Ireland, she makes a wish for true love. In a twist reminiscent of “Freaky Friday“, she wakes up as Kennedy’s bride-to-be but soon realizes that her soulmate is someone else. Much like another Netflix production, “Emily in Paris“, it’s more about providing an escape from everyday life and a chance to dream.

Lindsay Lohan’s third film titled “Our Little Secret” debuted on Netflix on November 27th. In this movie, Lohan plays Avery, who unexpectedly spends Christmas with her ex-boyfriend Logan. Unbeknownst to them, their partners are actually siblings. Kristin Chenoweth portrays the matriarch of the family, Erica, during the holiday turmoil. Lohan shared with Tudum, “It’s a joy to be part of films that revolve around holidays as it brings families together. When we can create a movie that families can cherish and watch annually, it adds an extra layer of significance.

“Our Little Secret” is receiving high praise from critics as one of Lindsay Lohan’s best films in a while, even her best on Netflix. Some might call this a comeback, and with three recent Netflix Originals starring Lohan and the “Freaky Friday” sequel set for release in 2025, it certainly seems like one.
