As an ardent admirer of Sharad Kapoor’s illustrious career and captivating performances, it pains me deeply to witness such allegations against him. I have fondly watched his journey from Mera Pyara Bharat to Josh, and more recently in The Good Maharaja. It is hard to reconcile the man who has brought us enchanting characters with the accusations that have surfaced.
As an ardent admirer, it’s hard to believe the recent allegations swirling around my beloved Sharad Kapoor – the man who shared the screen with the radiant Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Josh. Rumors are circulating that he’s been accused of unacceptable behavior and sexual harassment, and apparently, a case has been lodged against him for such misconduct, which includes uncomfortable physical encounters with a woman. In response to these accusations, Sharad himself has vehemently denied the claims, leaving us fans in a state of uncertainty and hope.
As per an IANS report, authorities at the Khar police station in Mumbai have filed a case following allegations made by a 32-year-old woman against actor Sharad Kapoor. She claimed that he asked her to visit his residence under the guise of discussing a potential film project, but subsequently displayed inappropriate behavior instead.
She asserted that they first interacted on Facebook, subsequently communicating via video conferences where he showed interest in meeting up. Assuming this was a business matter, she agreed after receiving a location marker. Yet, when she got there, it turned out to be his home, not an office, and she accused him of inappropriate behavior and forcing unwanted physical contact.
When she arrived at the third-story apartment, a man welcomed her and opened the door. Afterward, Sharad Kapoor told her to go to his bedroom. That night, it’s said that he messaged her on WhatsApp using inappropriate words. Upset by this incident, the woman shared her concerns with a friend who subsequently reported the matter to the Khar police station. This resulted in an official complaint being lodged against the actor.
A complaint has been lodged against the actor for alleged violations under Sections 74, 75, and 79 of the Indian Penal Code. These sections pertain to assault or using criminal force on a woman, sexual harassment, and insulting a woman’s modesty respectively.
In a conversation with Free Press Journal, Sharad Kapoor refuted the accusations brought against him. He explained, “I was unaware when the case was initiated against me as I had recently arrived from New York. The authorities reached out to me, but presently, I am in Kolkata. The event in question never took place; how could I forcibly name someone without it occurring?
In the realm of Indian cinema, I, Sharad Kapoor, embarked on my journey back in 1994 with the film Mera Pyara Bharat. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege to be a part of numerous productions such as Jai Ho, Tamanna, Lakshya, and LOC Kargil. Notably, I also worked behind the scenes as an assistant director on Lakshmanrekha. Beyond the silver screen, you might have seen me on various TV shows. Although my recent activity in the industry has been somewhat subdued, I remain a familiar face, with my latest role gracing the screens in The Good Maharaja (2022).
