As a long-time cinema enthusiast who has witnessed the ebb and flow of the Star Wars franchise, I must say that I find Daisy Ridley‘s optimism about the upcoming Rey Skywalker film both refreshing and inspiring. Her active involvement in the creative process, as well as her understanding of the importance of taking the time to get it right, resonates with me deeply.
Daisy Ridley’s latest Star Wars movie has encountered one delay after another, but the actress sees this as potentially beneficial. The upcoming Star Wars film is said to focus on Rey Skywalker/Palpatine, who aims to establish a new Jedi Order following Luke Skywalker’s demise in “The Last Jedi.” Announced last year, the movie has faced various hurdles, such as losing its original screenwriter, Steven Knight (known for Peaky Blinders). A new screenwriter has been found for the project, although their identity is not yet revealed. Despite the delays, Ridley maintains a positive outlook on the venture and her possible role as a producer.
In conversation with City AM, Ridley shared an encouraging update about her solo Star Wars project. “I’ve kept up-to-date with all the progress,” the actress started. Ridley explained that she worked closely with directors J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson during the latest Star Wars trilogy. However, this new film offers her significantly more creative control, as she elaborated further.
On this project, I’ve become more aware and actively engaged in the process of planning and decision-making (than before), but I still recall pieces of information that JJ [Abrams] or Ryan [Johnson] shared with me. This has always made me feel like a significant part of the team. However, this time around, I’m taking an active role in the direction and progression of the project.
As a movie enthusiast penning down my thoughts, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming Rey Skywalker film, initially rumored for a 2026 release. However, Disney’s recent decision to withhold an undisclosed project from their 2026 lineup has left us all guessing about its fate. At present, there’s no clear date set for Ridley’s next Star Wars movie to grace our cinema screens. Despite the mounting impatience among fans, Ridley herself expressed gratitude for this delay, stating that it provides the team with more time to meticulously craft and polish the film to its full potential.
It’s fantastic to realize we can take our time to get it just right, and I must admit, I’m truly thrilled about capturing this moment and updating everyone on our progress. Everything feels great, absolutely wonderful!
More ‘Star Wars’ Projects Are Coming… Eventually
The fate of Star Wars movies on the big screen remains unclear, as Disney has often altered their release plans for these films set in a distant galaxy. Initially, they had multiple projects underway, such as Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film and one by Taika Waititi. However, it appears that Jenkins’ project has been put on hold, leading some to speculate that the same may have happened to Waititi’s project.
Currently, as a die-hard Star Wars fan, I’m thrilled to share that five Star Wars movies are in development at Disney right now. Besides the anticipated New Jedi Order film, Jon Favreau is transferring some of Star Wars’ most popular television characters to the big screen. The Mandalorian and Grogu, who have stolen our hearts from the hit Disney+ show, will soon star in their own movie. Furthermore, a new trilogy is also being planned, though details about these projects remain under wraps. Next on the horizon for the Star Wars universe is the space-themed Disney+ series, Skeleton Crew, which has been compared to The Goonies in its adventurous spirit.
No official release date has been announced for the new Rey Skywalker
