Assouline’s ‘The Book of HOV’ Commemorates JAY-Z’s Brooklyn Public Library Tribute Exhibition

As a lifelong fan of Hip Hop and JAY-Z, I can’t help but feel exhilarated by Assouline’s new book, “The Book of HOV: A Tribute to JAY-Z.” Having grown up listening to JAY-Z’s music and witnessing his meteoric rise, this comprehensive tribute feels like a testament to a cultural icon that has not only soundtracked my life but also inspired generations.

Following the publication of a detailed book about unforgettable moments in NBA history during October, Assouline is back with another book titled “The Book of HOV: A Tribute to JAY-Z“. This new work celebrates and preserves the legacy of JAY-Z’s exhibition named “The Book of HOV: A Tribute“, which took place at the Brooklyn Public Library a year ago. The extensive exhibition, active from July to December 2023, drew in more than 600,000 visitors, making it one of the largest public exhibits in American history.

The book, organized into eight sections, showcases JAY-Z’s enduring impact on culture through over 700 images and thoughtful essays from numerous contributors. Similar to the exhibition, the book brings attention to thousands of archival items from JAY-Z’s remarkable career, such as his original master recordings, performance outfits, previously unseen photos, the guitar he played at Glastonbury Festival, Daniel Arsham’s “HOV Hands” sculpture, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame award won by the rapper from Reasonable Doubt, and additional iconic memorabilia.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d rephrase it like this: “JAY-Z isn’t just a jack-of-all-trades; he’s smashed barriers in an incredible variety of fields, be it symbolic or physical. The Book of HOV reveals how JAY-Z embodies the idea that if you’re determined and write your own destiny, you can achieve anything.

The book is scheduled to be part of Assouline’s Premium and Timeless editions. It’s worth mentioning that they have collaborated with Daniel Arsham to produce a unique “Limited Special Edition” of this book, which will be limited to just five numbered copies. This special edition by Arsham is marketed as a “detailed topographical sculpture and an essential cultural artifact,” personally signed by the artist.

On December 4, you’ll be able to buy Assouline’s “The Book of HOV: A Tribute to Jay-Z” online. The Classic version costs $100 USD, while the Ultimate edition retails for $2,000 USD. Have a peek at the binding images above for a sneak peek.
