In September, it was revealed that the actor, known as Travis Montgomery on Station 19, will be appearing in CBS’ FBI: International. As he prepares to reappear on the 2024 TV lineup, Hayden acknowledged that returning to set brought back some difficult memories.

Good news for Station 19 enthusiasts! Instead of waiting until the FBI show’s 2025 comeback for Jay Hayden’s appearance, you can catch him in the December 10 episode of FBI: International. The transition from a firefighter to a federal agent wasn’t an easy ride for Hayden, as he confessed to Deadline. It seems that one of his biggest challenges was being without his good friend Barrett Doss by his side during this new phase. He mentioned:

As a gamer, stepping into a new game feels like tackling a level I’ve never played before, and it’s tough. Working with Barrett was like having a trusted ally by my side in every mission. We had an instant connection, almost like reading each other’s minds. But one day, she was gone, and adapting to the new dynamics was a challenge. I missed her presence, her reactions, her improvisations. It felt like I was playing without my trusty sidekick. It’s different working with new actors; they have their unique ways of approaching characters and scenes. It’s a learning curve, but it’s also exciting to explore these differences.

It’s heartwarming and bittersweet to learn that Jay Hayden and Barrett Doss shared a bond as strong off-screen as their characters did on ‘Station 19.’ In the final episode’s flash forward, it was fittingly poignant when Travis opted to join Vic in Washington, D.C., reflecting the show’s most cherished friendship.

On the set of FBI: International, not just the absence of Barrett Doss as a scene partner, but also the significantly different tone from his other show, Station 19, caused Jay Hayden to experience an unexpected challenge. The ABC series had a noticeably more comedic atmosphere compared to both shows. As quoted by Hayden, “The tone of FBI: International was quite different, leaning more towards comedy.

During the initial days of filming, there were moments when I’d insert some humor into scenes, only to be told, “Cut! Jay, that’s too amusing. We can’t be laughing here.” They also pointed out that my character was intended to be somewhat of a jerk, not charming. I understood and adjusted, realizing this production required a different approach. In this particular scene, the focus is on the case and engaging the audience with the criminal and the investigation. So, to keep things light-hearted wasn’t appropriate for this show. It was a challenging shift, but an enjoyable one.

It seems like Travis Montgomery in a new team isn’t what we should expect. Instead, Jay Hayden will reappear in the fourth season of FBI: International, portraying Agent Tyler Booth. He is said to be both intelligent and charming, but also somewhat arrogant, as hinted previously.

In the upcoming show “Keen as a Bean,” Tyler will be the central character as he maneuvers to apprehend an FBI’s Most Wanted fugitive by tricking his ex-wife. The Fly Team will aid him in this endeavor, all while trying to lure the criminal out of Russia.
