As a die-hard One Piece fan who has been sailing through the Grand Line of manga chapters for years, I couldn’t be more thrilled with the news that Netflix’s live-action adaptation is gearing up for an even bigger adventure! Vincent Regan’s teaser about Season 2 wrapping up filming and the hint at Season 3 starting production sooner than expected has me feeling like I’ve struck gold in the treasure island of anime news.
The live-action version of “One Piece” on Netflix received unexpectedly positive feedback, further increasing anticipation for season 2. Unlike the first season that covered the East Blue saga from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga, season 2 is poised to delve deeper into the world and story of “One Piece”, featuring grander settings and a conflict with Baroque Works, a mysterious organization, on an even larger scale.
At the Vienna Comic-Con, Vincent Regan, who plays Monkey D. Garp in One Piece, shared an engaging update about Season 2 during his interview with CeralKillerz. He hinted at the immense scale of the upcoming story arc and made some speculative remarks about its potential release date. Moreover, he dropped a surprising revelation that production for Season 3 might begin ahead of schedule.
“I’ve come back from South Africa now. I’ve filmed season 2, everything my character is doing in season 2 is finished, and now they are finishing in about a month, I think they’ll finish filming. So I think the show will be ready for Netflix before Christmas next year. I hope. And I guess they’ll start filming season 3 pretty soon, and I think they are doing- I think it’s called the Albasta story arc. I think it’s going to take two seasons. What I’ve seen of the designs, drawings, and when I was there there was some really fun stuff being shot there at the moment.”
The Alabasta Arc of Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Will Be the Biggest One Yet
One Piece Season 1 premiered towards the end of August 2023, making Regan’s prediction of a Holiday 2025 release seem somewhat distant. Nevertheless, there’s still a lot to explore in Season 2, as the story arcs that will be portrayed constitute only half of the Alabasta saga from One Piece, which promises to be the most substantial storyline the series has yet to deliver.
Regan’s remarks align with the significant casting announcement from fall, as it was previously disclosed that Joe Manganiello will portray the beloved antagonist, Sir Crocodile. This character is the central villain of the Alabasta storyline and isn’t prominently featured in any of the arcs that Season 2 of One Piece plans to adapt. Given the caliber of an actor like Manganiello, it’s logical to assume that the character will have a larger role in Season 2. Furthermore, the creators and writers of the series may be preparing for a crucial Season 3 focusing on Crocodile.
Although nothing Regan mentioned has been verified yet, it’s still thrilling to hear that the production of One Piece Season 2 seems to be progressing well. Given that fans familiar with the One Piece manga know that this upcoming second season marks the start of one of the series’ most eagerly anticipated and action-filled arcs, Regan’s hints about a potential Season 3 filming date have an extra dose of excitement. We just need Netflix to share some more concrete updates.
