As a fan who has grown up with the melodious ballads and electrifying tunes of Bob Dylan, I am absolutely thrilled about Timothée Chalamet‘s portrayal of the legendary musician in ‘A Complete Unknown’. The fact that Bob himself has endorsed this venture is a testament to the young actor’s talent.
Bob Dylan is comfortable with Timothée Chalamet’s depiction of him in the upcoming movie directed by James Mangold, titled “A Complete Unknown“.
Dylan announced on social media on Wednesday that a movie about him titled ‘A Complete Unknown‘ will be released soon. Timothee Chalamet will star in the lead role, and given his exceptional acting skills, he’s expected to convincingly portray Dylan or perhaps a younger version of himself.
Mangold’s movie is set during the summer of 1961, where a 19-year-old Dylan traveled from Minnesota to New York City with just his guitar. The film is inspired by the 2015 book “Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Split the Sixties” by Elijah Wald, which delves into the debate sparked by Dylan’s decision to use electrically amplified instruments.
On a Wednesday post, Dylan expressed that the book offers a “wonderful reinterpretation of the series of events in the early ’60s culminating in the Newport disaster.” He also suggested, “Once you’ve watched the film, read the book.
Recently, Chalamet shared with Zane Lowe his sense of affinity with Dylan’s tale. “I’ve had my own life experiences, and while they may not seem odd, I can empathize with some aspects of his journey,” Chalamet explained. “Similar to Bob Dylan, I aspired to become a music sensation – think Buddy Holly, Little Richard, or Elvis Presley. From one perspective, this was the ubiquitous, marketed-to-youth rock ‘n’ roll genre that dominated the late 50s. In a parallel way, I too dreamt of becoming a prominent film actor.
He went on to explain, “I became involved with films that had a deeply personal touch for me. For Dylan, it was folk music. Due to financial constraints, he couldn’t maintain a rock ‘n’ roll band in Minnesota as other kids hired them instead. Similarly, for me, it was about discovering movies with a very intimate and relatable feel – such as ‘Call Me By Your Name’, ‘Beautiful Boy’, ‘Lady Bird’, ‘Little Women’, ‘Miss Stevens’, ‘Hot Summer Nights’. These were lower-budget films but they had an extremely personal and engaging quality, which I found in the theater setting. It was there that I found my groove, my self-assurance, my creative flow, as you might put it.
A Complete Unknown hits theaters on Christmas Day.
