David Cornswet’s ‘Superman’ Compared to Christopher Reeve by Frank Grillo

As a longtime fan of superhero movies, I must say that the casting of David Corenswet as Superman has me thoroughly excited. Frank Grillo, who shares the screen with him in this upcoming DCU project, has compared him to none other than Christopher Reeve – a comparison that sends shivers down my spine.

In the upcoming chapter for the DC Universe led by James Gunn, a fresh take on Superman is being presented with David Corenswet donning the cape in Gunn’s upcoming film slated for release in June 2025. With such high expectations, it’s natural to feel apprehensive about how this project will unfold. However, according to his Superman co-star, Frank Grillo, Corenswet embodies the role of DC’s Boy Scout with a pearl of perfection.

In a recent conversation, Grillo chatted with Kristian Harloff about his character Rick Flag Sr., set to appear first in the animated series “Creature Commandos”, followed by a live-action debut in “Superman”. Regarding Tyler Hoechlin’s portrayal of Superman, Grillo couldn’t help but shower him with compliments, even going so far as to note similarities to one of the all-time greats. Grillo enthusiastically stated, “There’s something very reminiscent of Christopher Reeve in David [Hoechlin].” Christopher Reeve is widely recognized as one of the best big-screen Supermen, having played the Man of Steel four times between 1978 and 1987.

Grillo went on, stating that Corenswet embodies an impressive presence.” So far, fans have been introduced to just two official snapshots of Corenswet as Superman. However, the most compelling glimpse has emerged from leaked set photos, showcasing Superman in his costume alongside a variety of other well-known DC characters. Although viewers won’t get to watch Corenswet in action until June next year, Frank Grillo has already had the opportunity to observe him, and he believes that Corenswet is spot on for the role.

There’s a certain vibe about him… It’s hard for me to put into words, but I just got the feeling that he’s like Superman.

The ‘Superman’ Trailer Is Ready

With anticipation mounting for the upcoming release of Superman next year, James Gunn, DC Studios director and co-president, has been dropping hints about the movie’s trailer on social media. In recent weeks, he’s given us a glimpse that the trailer is now finished and ready to hit theaters in December. Contrary to a rumor suggesting it would debut on December 16, Gunn clarified that it won’t be released on that specific date, leaving room for its potential release during the same week instead.

Among some fantastic talents like David Corenswet, Frank Grillo, and myself (as a movie enthusiast), Superman boasts an impressive cast that includes Rachel Brosnahan, Milly Alcock, Isabela Merced, Nicholas Hoult, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Nathan Fillion, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Alan Tudyk, Wendell Pierce, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Sean Gunn, and many others. As the inaugural live-action DC Studios project, Superman serves as a launchpad for future movies and series in this universe.

The film is packed full of popular and underappreciated DC heroes. The leaked set photos revealed Superman working with the Green Lantern (Fillion), Mister Terrific (Gethagi), and Hawkgirl (Merced). Meanwhile, Hoult is playing Lex Luthor in the movie. However, it has not been confirmed if he will be the film’s main villain. The first official photo of Corenswet in the Superman suit teased a giant alien villain in the background, which many believe to be the film’s main antagonist. But Gunn is remaining tight-lipped about who it will be.
