Jake Paul Joins ‘Undisputed’ Boxing Video Game, While Mike Tyson Does Not

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must admit that the addition of Jake Paul to the roster of Undisputed is a peculiar move. Don’t get me wrong; I appreciate the efforts made by Steel City Interactive to make the game more engaging, but I can’t help but wonder if this decision was based on viewership numbers rather than actual boxing prowess.

Jake Paul will soon be a playable character in Undisputed, the boxing video game.

The game launched in October by Steel City Interactive, playable on Xbox, PS5, and PC, showcases more than 70 authentic fighter likenesses (both male and female), along with 60 unique punches. Additionally, it includes a supporting cast of trainers, cutmen, and managers in its secondary roster.

On December 12, you can download additional content that includes the 27-year-old ex-YouTuber and recent cover star of the Hollywood Reporter. In this new content, you’ll have the opportunity to virtually box with this individual, who will be available in three distinct outfits for the match.

15th November’s highly anticipated fight between Paul and Mike Tyson on Netflix garnered a staggering 108 million viewers globally, which is roughly one in five households with subscriptions. The match caused Netflix servers to malfunction, leading to dissatisfied customers filing lawsuits. In the end, Paul emerged victorious against the 58-year-old Tyson, securing a unanimous decision after judges scored the bout 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in his favor.

Paul emphasizes that this venture isn’t merely about playing a video game, but about motivating a fresh wave of enthusiasts to enter the arena, both digitally and physically. He commends the Steel City team for perfectly capturing his fighting style and personal flair in every aspect.

From the impressive lineup at Undisputed, you’ll find boxing legends like Roy Jones Jr. (at his peak in 1993), the previous WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury (who defeated Paul in a match held in 2023), and an earlier version of Muhammad Ali from 1964.

Mike Tyson, often considered one of the greatest heavyweight boxers ever, isn’t found in the movie “Undisputed”. Instead, he’s been signed by EA Sports and appears as a playable character in their mixed martial arts game, titled “UFC“. At the time of request, Tyson’s representatives had not yet provided a comment.

The advancement sparked discontent among the dedicated fans of Undisputed, who voiced concerns over technical issues (“We received Jake Paul in Undisputed before we got a properly functioning game,” said one YouTube commenter) and conspicuous absences (“It’s unbelievable that you included Jake instead of Manny Pacquiao or even Mike Tyson. What on earth?”).

In 1987, Mike Tyson became the initial boxing champ to be featured in a popular video game, titled “Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!”. This game was launched for Nintendo’s first home console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is said that he received $50,000 for allowing them to use his image in the game.

Previously, Minoru Arakawa, former president of Nintendo of America, noticed Tyson’s exceptional power and skill during a game, leading him to seal the contract with Tyson. This happened before Tyson became a world champion in 1986 – a title that significantly boosted the game’s earnings.
