As a devoted fan, I can empathize with Billie Eilish‘s complex relationship with social media. Her struggle to maintain privacy while connecting with her fans is something many artists grapple with in this digital age. It’s fascinating to see how she tries to strike a balance between sharing and protecting herself, a challenge that resonates deeply with me as someone who also values both my personal life and the connection with the community.
Billie Eilish is not exactly proud of how much she uses social media.
The multiple Grammy and Oscar-winning musician-composer was recently questioned by Complex magazine about her present standpoint towards social media, as she has previously expressed conflicting emotions concerning her private life’s portrayal on these digital platforms.
She mentioned that she’s moved away from using X (previously Twitter), and also shared that she took a break from Instagram and TikTok around a couple of months back, and it felt great.
On the other hand, staying away from social media poses challenges for the “Birds of a Feather” artist during her global tour promoting her recently released album titled “Hit Me Hard and Soft“.
During my tour, Eilish shared, what I appreciate most is connecting with my fans. I enjoy watching their videos from different angles, understanding their emotions towards the performance. If something seems off to me, I want to make adjustments. However, sometimes, I get lost in viewing these videos online and end up spending too much time, which can disrupt me.
She mentioned, “I’ve resumed using them, but I’m making an effort to quit. They are my cigarettes, and they pose a significant issue for me.
Despite the negative aspects associated with social media, the famous singer known as “The Bad Guy” continues to find some positive aspects, like hosting Q&A sessions with her fans on Instagram. She acknowledged, “Some parts are fantastic and I really appreciate it. However, people often make such interactions challenging. It’s disheartening to see how some individuals spoil it for others.
Previously, Eilish candidly discussed the intricacies of her personal relationship with social media and the efforts she’s made to establish limits in an interview with British rapper Stormzy for i-D magazine in September 2021.
She expressed that she was torn about it. On one hand, she wasn’t comfortable sharing intimate aspects of her life with everyone, preferring to keep certain details private. Yet, on the other hand, she desired for others to empathize and understand if they’ve gone through similar experiences, so there was a balance she sought between privacy and openness.
