Interview: Vadym, Mech Arena's Game Director, reveals the details on upcoming Law and Disorder event

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, let me tell you that Mech Arena has captured my attention like no other game in recent memory. The sheer amount of customization options available, coupled with the strategic depth and fast-paced action, makes for an unparalleled gaming experience.

As Christmas rapidly nears, there’s only one exciting truth I can’t help but share – Mech Arena is gearing up for its winter event! Forget about Santa, gifts, and feasts (for now). This seasonal extravaganza promises fresh mechs, maps, skins, and an array of other enticing goodies. Not too long ago, I had the privilege to chat with Game Director Vadym, discussing the thrilling Law and Disorder expansion, as well as delving deeper into the captivating world of this popular multiplayer shooter.

Can you introduce yourself and your role on Mech Arena to our readers, please?

I’m Vadym, a Game Director on Mech Arena, focusing on the creative vision of the game and the development of the project. My goal is to balance the players’ needs with the team’s creative ambitions and business objectives.

As a seasoned gamer who’s clocked over a decade and a half in the gaming industry, I’ve found my professional home at Plarium for the last ten years. Outside of the digital realm, I wear two hats – one as a devoted husband, the other as a proud father to a sprightly two-year-old daughter. When I’m not conquering virtual worlds, I indulge in collecting vintage gaming consoles, painting intricate miniatures, and strumming chords on my guitar. However, it’s the thrill of games that truly ignites my passion.

Mech Arena was first released in 2021 and has since been downloaded over 80 million times. Has this met or exceeded your expectations? While that’s a staggering number, you also have the popular Raid Shadow Legends on your books.

Mech Arena’s success has absolutely exceeded our expectations, with over 80 million players joining the mech circuit since its 2021 launch. The game’s accessibility, competitive spirit, and exciting customization options have resonated with players worldwide. Our goal was to bring the energy of professional sports into a mobile game that’s both fun and strategic for players of all skill levels, and the global response has been incredible.

It’s particularly gratifying to witness the ingenuity and enthusiasm within our community, showcased through one-of-a-kind mechanical modifications, creative tactics, and spirited rivalries.

In our collection, RAID: Shadow Legends stands out for its captivating Role-Playing Game (RPG) environment, but Mech Arena provides a unique twist, establishing its own niche. This diversity enables us to cater to diverse groups and offer exclusive gaming experiences.

Our adventure with Mech Arena doesn’t end now. We’re constantly improving it to make it the premier destination for competitive mobile gaming enthusiasts across the globe. The popularity of Mech Arena continues to expand, and I can’t wait to see where this exciting journey takes us!

Since release, what are the most impactful changes you have made to the game?

One of the most significant changes was the introduction of the PvE mode. This feature was highly anticipated both by our player community and within our development team. We started small, iteratively adding new features and evolving the mode over time. With each new campaign, we introduced new mechanics and experimented with various approaches to creating engaging gameplay experiences. Some campaigns focused on a fast-paced, tactical experience, while others emphasized strategic gameplay. Next year will mark a fundamentally new stage in the development of the PvE mode, which will be entirely new and exciting.

As an avid player, I can’t help but notice how introducing new mechs and weapons significantly shapes the game experience, especially in combat scenarios. Initially, we had just one legendary mech and weapon at the start, but now, we’ve got over 18 mechs and numerous weapon types! Each piece of content comes with its own distinct mechanics and abilities, offering a rich tapestry for creative combinations that result in unpredictable synergies. This not only spices up the interactions within my personal mech collection but also adds depth to teamwork with fellow players.

Over the course of time, the designers and developers at Mech Arena have made significant strides in refining their methods, resulting in more intricate and captivating content being consistently rolled out, ensuring continued enjoyment for our players.

But the most exciting part is still ahead.

How important is player feedback when it comes to adding or changing content?

Player feedback is at the heart of everything we do with Mech Arena. From the start, we envisioned the game as a living, evolving experience shaped by both our creative vision and the voices of our players. Their input drives meaningful changes, whether it’s fine-tuning game balance, introducing new features, or designing fresh content that resonates with their preferences.

Every day, our community fuels us with its enthusiasm and innovative ideas. This is evident in their excitement for customization features, debates on tactics, and suggestions that have led to significant improvements such as the Gear Hub. Our team actively nurtures this bond by acting as a liaison between players and developers, ensuring that feedback is not only heard but also addressed.

Furthermore, our developer’s blog has proven to be an effective means of maintaining transparency with players. Not only does it provide glimpses into the development process, but it also serves as a platform for gathering feedback and insights straight from the gaming community. This interaction is crucial in keeping the game engaging and competitive on a global scale. We are committed to nurturing this partnership as Mech Arena embarks on its next thrilling phase.

What do you think Mech Arena brings to the table that makes it stand out from the crowd?

What makes Mech Arena truly unique is its combination of fast-paced, accessible 5v5 battles with a deep level of customization and strategy. We built this game specifically for players to jump in and out at a moment’s notice but also give them so many options to create a customized mech hangar all their own. Unlike other shooters, Mech Arena focuses on sports-driven competition rather than dark, warlike themes.

In Mech Arena, you can customize your mechanical warriors much like tailoring your very own Formula One racing cars. You have complete authority over the weaponry, visual aspects, and abilities, enabling you to design your perfect combatant. This game offers an exhilarating mix of strategic team play within a friendly competitive setting, making it accessible for players of all skill levels to join and compete from the get-go. With its global esports potential and emphasis on collaboration, Mech Arena showcases the power of teamwork and innovative strategies in a lively, vibrant universe filled with mechanical chaos.

If one of our readers decides to start playing after reading this interview and you could only give them one tip, what would it be?

If you’re just starting with Mech Arena, my number one tip is to experiment with different mech and weapon combinations to find what best suits your playstyle. The game offers a wealth of customization options and your success in battle hinges on how well you can adapt and strategize. Don’t be afraid to tweak your setup – whether you prefer long-range firepower or close-quarters combat, the right combination can make all the difference. And remember, practice makes perfect! The more you play, the better you’ll understand the intricacies of each mech and map which gives you a competitive edge in the arena.

Mech Arena will host its biggest winter event beginning today, how long will it last?

Our winter event Law and Disorder runs through February and is broken up into three, month-long stages. Each one is jam-packed with new free and premium content added weekly including new mechs, multiplayer tournaments, weapons and maps. The first stage is now through December 31st, followed by the Lunar New Year in January and Valentine’s Day in February. The event structure aims to create a sense of seasonal excitement for the community.

What can we expect in Law and Disorder? Any new maps and mechs? Will we get our hands on some “free goodies?”

Law and Disorder follows a rich, new sub-storyline in which Silva Industries (the shady mega-corporation at the centre of Mecha Arena) faces off against the Freedom Fighters, a new rebellious group. As righteous indignation turns to violence, the city becomes swept up in their conflict.

As a devoted gamer, I’m thrilled to share that over the next three months, there are more than 75 exciting rewards up for grabs! From fresh mechs and maps to captivating skins and unique content, the selection is vast and varied. What sets our reward system apart from other free-to-play games is its player-centric approach. Each prize you claim gets taken out of the pool, enhancing your chances of landing the game’s most coveted rewards since you’ll never receive duplicates. In essence, every time you achieve a milestone or complete an objective, you boost your odds of winning big!

We’re unveiling Law and Disorder, featuring not one but two Crate Rush events, showcasing our fresh Mech, Salvor, and a newly minted Rocketeer weapon category! Players have the opportunity to join our Playoff Event to bag premium rewards such as a gratis Legendary Skin for Blockhorn. All they need to do is accomplish tasks and advance on the rankings. Our Derby Event offers a chance to pocket free event tokens, which players can later employ to unlock Salvor.

Later in December, players can compete in a Free-for-all tournament on our brand new Christmas-themed map, followed by another Playoff event where players can earn a new weapon weight and a skin for our Mech, Eclipse. Additional Crate Rush events will introduce another new weapon weight and weapon type. As a special New Year’s celebration, players can redeem a promo code to unlock a new skin for our fan-favourite Mech, Killshot!

Players find it incredibly exhilarating when we unveil a fresh weapon type, as it significantly reshapes their mech choice strategies and methods in combat. Having two new ones within a month is bound to create quite the buzz!

Beyond the upcoming events, what can we expect from Mech Arena in 2025?

Every year, we focus on different goals that guide our roadmap of new Mech Arena features. Next year, we’ll dedicate significant attention to player engagement and retention. This will include everything from small quality-of-life features to enhancements for clans and new game modes that could greatly diversify the Mech Arena experience. We’re preparing exciting updates for both competitive PvP enthusiasts and players who enjoy the PvE experience. Join the Mech Arena family and embark on an exciting journey alongside millions of players!
