As a dedicated Bridgerton enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of Anthony Bridgerton from a rake to a loving husband, I can confidently say that I am thrilled at the prospect of seeing glimpses of Season 1 Anthony reappear in Season 4. You see, I remember the old Anthony all too well – protective, dramatic, and prone to duels over his siblings. While I don’t expect him to return to those exact ways, I am eager to see how his struggles with duty and overprotectiveness will come into play, especially given that Season 4 focuses on Benedict.
Previously, before the romance between Colin and Penelope in Bridgerton, as well as Anthony and Kate’s storyline, Viscount Bridgerton was portrayed as a protective sibling and, to quote Lady Whistledown, “a notorious rake.” However, he has changed since his marriage and is less harsh now. Jonathan Bailey, who plays him, hinted that we might see some of Season 1 Anthony’s behavior in Season 4 of Bridgerton. Consequently, I have a hunch about what may trigger this change in the upcoming season.
What Jonathan Bailey Said About ‘Hints Of Anthony From Season 1’ Appearing in Bridgerton Season 4
Regardless of what Jonathan Bailey is currently endorsing, such as the highly anticipated 2024 film Wicked, conversations about his work on Bridgerton are inevitable. During an interview with W Magazine regarding his new musical, questions about the popular Netflix series and characters like Kate and Anthony naturally arose. In response to a question about discovering fresh dimensions in their relationship, Bailey shared insights about the growth of his character. Here’s what he had to say:
Anthony and Kate are two celestial bodies that have consistently orbited around each other, and they eventually collide. However, what lies beyond their romantic entanglement? What makes Anthony intriguing and what I found captivating about his storyline in season one is his dynamic with duty and the influence he held over Daphne and his family, the sense of solitude he endured, and the rage that surfaced due to [the demise of] his father.
He continued by stating that following his discovery of Kate, Anthony regained his smile, describing her as his “soulmate.” This has enabled him to be more lively and relaxed. Yet, when Bailey reappears as Anthony in Season 4, it seems that his guardedness and sense of responsibility could resurface, hinting at this: the actor from “Fellow Travelers” suggested a potential return to these traits in the upcoming season.
Unexpectedly, they’re enjoying the best moments now as they get to play games once more. They’re expecting a child – their long-awaited dream. It’s fascinating to observe that certain aspects of oneself never grow old. Perhaps, we might catch glimpses of season one’s Anthony in future scenes.
It appears that although the viscount is contentedly settled in his relationship, there’s a strong possibility that Anthony may find himself entangled in past behaviors once more. This notion aligns well with my understanding, as Season 4 primarily explores the story of Benedict, their younger brother and the second eldest Bridgerton sibling.
I Think That Means We’re About To See Protective Anthony Back To Defend Benedict
Do you recall Anthony from Season 1? Absolutely, he’s etched in my memory. He was extremely protective of Daphne, struggling to keep afloat amidst his responsibilities, and rather theatrical. To put it mildly, he engaged in a duel with the Duke over his younger sister.
In Season 4, it’s unlikely we’ll encounter the same character as Anthony, but his internal conflicts regarding responsibility and excessive protection may still be a significant theme.
In Season 3, Anthony and Kate were deeply immersed in their honeymoon bliss, not significantly entangled in Colin’s romantic affairs. However, by Season 4, they seem to have grown more settled. Meanwhile, Colin appears to be re-immersing himself in his responsibilities as the head of the household. This shift brings about an increase in family turmoil and squabbles. Given that Benedict is expected to take center stage in the upcoming season, it’s likely that Anthony will find himself under close scrutiny.
Bridgerton Fans, There’s A Brand New Romance Series I’m Loving You Absolutely Need To Get Into Right Now
As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but envision Anthony finding himself drawn into Benedict’s pursuit of Sophie. It’s hard to predict whether he’ll be against his brother’s relationship or secretly aid it, subtly working against him in the process. However, what we do know is that despite Anthony’s unwavering commitment to duty, honor, and noble intentions, there’s always a chance that his actions may unexpectedly backfire.
In Season 2, Anthony secretly paid for Benedict’s admission to art school without his awareness. On the other hand, it’s crucial we recall his impulsive behavior from Season 1, where he forcefully insisted that Daphne marry Simon.
I’m eagerly looking forward to incorporating a touch of Season 1 Anthony into Season 4, as I’m curious to witness how the matured viscount grapples with these challenges and how Kate supports him throughout. He deeply cherishes his family, and he strives to do what’s morally correct at all times. However, his attempts to protect may sometimes result in painful consequences, making for engaging television drama.
Additionally, just like any other Bridgerton tale, it’s expected that events will culminate in a joyful conclusion, where Anthony may further evolve into a more outstanding viscount, brother, spouse, and parent.
To catch up on the first season featuring Anthony that we’ve mentioned, you can stream “Bridgerton” by subscribing to Netflix.
