Despite Being Such A Great Game, Jedi: Survivor Is Still Partially Broken In 2024

As a long-time Star Wars fan and a tech enthusiast who’s always eager to push my system to its limits, I must admit, I was truly excited for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The potential was there, but alas, EA’s negligence and lack of respect for their loyal fans have turned this promising title into a performance nightmare.

I’m quite drawn to high-performance video games, particularly ones that challenge my system and deliver an exceptional experience in return. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor could have been one such game, had it not been for Electronic Arts’ persistent oversight of the devoted fans of the Jedi series, and what appears to be a lack of regard for consumers as well.

It was clear from the start, based on initial reviews of the PC version, that the game would struggle with performance issues – and unfortunately, this proved to be accurate.

Over time, EA has been releasing “weekly” updates to enhance the performance of Jedi: Survivor, and while these updates have addressed some significant issues with the game, it’s far from being optimal in terms of performance. In other words, even though improvements have been made, the game is still not performing at its best.

Here’s how. 

Jedi: Survivor’s Major Technical Shortcomings

Initially, it’s crucial to address the issues that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is currently grappling with. These mainly include unstable shader performance and occasional traversal hiccups. While these problems might not appear significant on a basic level, gamers who prioritize optimal performance, especially those invested in maximizing their high-end equipment’s potential, may find the experience underwhelming when considering the results.

Since the release of Jedi: Survivor in April 2023, Electronic Arts (EA) has been continuously refining and upgrading the game’s overall experience. These improvements are evident, yet it’s important to note that despite these enhancements, the game is not without its flaws, as it’s not perfect.

By the way, let me mention some issues I’ve noticed with the game, Jedi: Survivor. There are inconsistent visual glitches scattered throughout, such as odd-colored flashes, unexpected toggling of the RT function, animation stutters, and so on. These problems collectively create a less than ideal gaming experience because they mar the overall quality of the game. Upon its release, the PC version received significant criticism, even earning a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam due to poor performance.

It’s too bad that despite being generally solid in other aspects, Survivor tends to fall short when it comes to its somewhat foreseeable storyline.

Additionally, I must mention that the PlayStation 5 version of the game isn’t showing any significant improvement either. The recent update for Jedi: Survivor comes close to perfection, yet it seems to highlight the image quality problems even more. It’s quite clear that these issues could have been addressed much earlier, as EA has already pledged to look into them.

Conversely, it should be noted that the Performance Mode of the PS5 Pro delivers impressively. When it comes to reflections, they are indeed commendable and represent a significant improvement over the standard PlayStation 5.

Let’s Be Clear About The Overall Experience

I think it’s important to address this directly: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remains an outstanding game, but some technical hiccups may disrupt the experience of those who value perfection. For more casual gamers, these occasional performance issues might not be noticeable or problematic at all. It’s worth noting that graphical glitches in Jedi: Survivor can sometimes occur.

eXputer reviewed the game, rating it 4/5, with author Huzaifah Durrani remarking, 

Survivor” is an exceptional game that expands upon the solid foundations laid by its earlier version. However, some aspects of its storyline may not deliver as effectively as intended.

EA Still Needs To Uphold Certain Standards With Its Flagship Entries

EA lures players in with sales, discounts, and similar offers, but as consumers, we must stand up for ourselves during these events to effectively communicate our message to those in charge. Respawn Entertainment, the creator of the Star Wars Jedi series, followed a familiar pattern with Jedi: Fallen Order, which is the precursor to Jedi: Survivor, and I can’t help but wonder why this identical situation arises again after so many years have passed.

Initially considering Dragon Age: Veilguard, it’s apparent that the game’s writing creates difficulties in appreciating its RPG aspect, suggesting that Electronic Arts (EA) may not have heeded the lessons from Mass Effect Andromeda, another western RPG which faced similar issues.
