'Cleaner' Red Band Trailer Teases Clive Owen & Daisy Ridley Thriller

As a long-time cinema enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of action heroines, I can confidently say that Daisy Ridley is poised to take over the genre with her raw talent and unbridled energy. Having grown up on a steady diet of Lara Croft, Sarah Connor, and Ellen Ripley, it’s exhilarating to see a new contender emerge who brings freshness and authenticity to the table.

In an action-packed trailer for “Cleaner,” Daisy Ridley takes on the bad guys with just her bare hands, reminiscent of the famous Die Hard series. With Ridley as a martial arts-skilled skyscraper window cleaner, this film presents an unusual protagonist who must fight against a hostile takeover led by Clive Owen to save her brother. The sneak peek suggests that Martin Campbell, director of James Bond, can still deliver high-octane action sequences.

In the trailer launched by Quiver Distribution (found below), we get our first glimpse of the movie ‘Cleaner’. It hints at Ridley Scott transitioning into a full-fledged action hero after his recent dramatic roles. In this film, the actress from ‘Star Wars’ takes on an entirely action-centric narrative. Owen plays Ridley’s former soldier opposite him, portraying a “radical activist” who hijacks an energy company’s annual gala to expose their corruption (a timely and justifiable cause). However, things take a violent turn when one of the leaders seeks revenge brutally, threatening to kill everyone in the building. Although the plot may seem familiar, let’s admit it – we’re more excited about Ridley kicking some serious action goals; the rest is just the icing on the cake.

In modern-day London, a band of passionate protesters storm an energy firm’s annual ball, capturing approximately 300 guests to reveal the company’s corrupt practices. However, their noble purpose is twisted by an ultraconservative member, who intends to massacre everyone within the building to broadcast his chaotic ideology globally. The responsibility of rescuing those confined inside falls upon Ridley, a former soldier now working as a window cleaner, perched 50 stories high on the outside of the building, and he must save not only the hostages but also his younger brother who is among them.

‘Cleaner’ Is Just the Start for Daisy Ridley as an Action Star

For Daisy Ridley, being a cleaner is simply the beginning of her journey towards becoming an action movie star. Although the development status of her upcoming Star Wars film remains uncertain, Ridley is all set to join forces with Casino Royale director Martin Campbell once more for another action-packed venture. Titled Dedication, this new project sees Ridley as a Marine Corps commander who employs her specialized training to thwart a school takeover by hostile forces and rescue hostages (which sounds somewhat reminiscent of their previous collaboration). It appears that the dynamic duo may not be venturing too far from their initial partnership’s mold, but it is nonetheless intriguing to witness Ridley already securing her next action role before Cleaner hits theaters next year.

During the filming of “Cleaner,” Ridley shared that it felt like her first action movie following her role in the recent “Star Wars” trilogy. She expressed a strong fondness for this genre and indicated her desire to continue working within it, also expressing admiration for the “John Wick” series.

It’s quite challenging yet incredibly enjoyable because I have an immense fondness for action movies. I adore John Wick, car chases, fights, and all that entails. Tomorrow, we begin a significant fight sequence, and I am absolutely thrilled about it. As for picking between the films, it’s like facing Sophie’s Choice; each one is so cool that I can’t decide which one is cooler.

Cleaner heads into theaters on February 21, 2025.
