Meet actor whose 1st film got shelved, made debut with Alia Bhatt, worked with Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra; now rules OTT

As I reflect upon Rohit Saraf’s inspiring journey, I find myself in awe of his resilience and determination. Losing his father at such a tender age and moving to Mumbai to fulfill his dream is nothing short of courageous. His story serves as a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of following one’s passion.

Actors like Anil Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan experienced a setback when their initial films were not released. But they didn’t let these obstacles stop them from excelling in the entertainment world. One actor who overcame this hurdle and has since risen to fame is now a household name, captivating audiences on digital platforms with his critically-acclaimed romantic comedy series.

At just eleven years old, Rohit Suresh Saraf tragically lost his father. To make his father’s dream come true – that of becoming an actor – Rohit bravely relocated to the bustling city of Mumbai.

At the tender age of 11, Rohit Saraf tragically lost his father. He finished his initial schooling at Saint Francis D’Assisi High School and subsequently attended St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai for his undergraduate studies. Following a modeling career start, Rohit relocated to Mumbai to focus on building his professional path.

Previously, he mentioned that his modeling career started when he was fifteen and quickly got a part on Channel V’s TV series. Following this, he obtained his initial major film role as the main character in the movie “Banana,” which was produced by John Abraham.

Although I’d spent three months on it after numerous audition sessions, my film unfortunately never saw the light of day.

In an interview with DNA, Rohit Saraf opened up about navigating challenges in the early stages of his career. He disclosed that upon finishing his first feature film titled “Banana”, he was counseled to abstain from accepting new projects for a span of two years, to prevent becoming overexposed and to enhance his position when the movie hit the screens.

Following this guidance, he decided against starting any new endeavors during that timeframe. Regrettably, the movie never got released, creating a challenging situation for him instead.

Rohit went into more detail about how, when he first arrived in Mumbai, he put in a lot of effort to forge connections with casting directors. He made it a point to attend every audition and always showed them respect.

However, after two years of decreasing job opportunities, the invitations for auditions ceased. Upon hearing that his project “Banana” was put on hold, he had to start rebuilding his professional connections all over again. He contacted the casting directors once more, but some replied with mocking remarks, inquiring about the status of his movie.

Rather than going back home, Rohit Saraf opted for a new start and ultimately found his debut role in the movie, Dear Zindagi, sharing screen time with Alia Bhatt. In this film, he portrayed Alia’s on-screen brother, launching his career in Bollywood.

After that point, there was no going back for Rohit. He went on to appear in Yash Raj Films’ comedy-drama Hichki alongside Rani Mukerji, followed by The Sky Is Pink, which starred Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar. However, his significant breakthrough occurred through his work on OTT platforms.

Rohit saw his popularity soar when he featured in Anurag Basu’s Ludo and the Netflix show Mismatched. It was the romantic drama Mismatched that propelled him to stardom, giving him the nickname “national heartthrob” and a rapidly increasing fanbase, predominantly among young females.

I can’t help but be awestruck! Not only did I witness his mesmerizing performance as Hrithik Roshan’s sibling in Vikram Vedha, but more recently, I found myself utterly captivated by his stunning debut as the lead actor in Ishq Vishk Rebound. Truly, he continues to leave me spellbound with each new role!

During a chat with India Today, Rohit Saraf shared his complex emotions about being labeled as the “National Crush”. Although there are instances when he experiences discomfort and is taken aback, another aspect of him gladly accepts this compliment and even finds pleasure in the increased admiration.

The latest season of his rom-com Mismatched is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
