As a seasoned gamer and a long-time fan of Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, I was thoroughly gripped by the latest episode of Dune: Prophecy, “Twice Born.” The Landsraad massacre was a shocking turn of events, reminiscent of the infamous “Red Wedding” from Game of Thrones, albeit less brutal. The Harkonnens took some heavy losses, and I had the privilege to chat with Edward Davis (Harrow Harkonnen) and Mark Addy (Evgeny Harkonnen) to dissect these events.
Heed this notice: There are spoilers for the “Dune: Prophecy” episode 104 titled “Twice Born.” If you’re not following the storyline of the Harkonnens, consider yourself warned.
Although it didn’t reach the catastrophic level of “The Red Wedding” in “Game of Thrones,” I believe the Landsraad massacre from “Dune: Prophecy” is a strong contender for one of the most violent events on the 2024 TV lineup. This tragic incident significantly affected the Harkonnen family, causing them significant setbacks in their pursuit of redemption. Consequently, I had to interview actors Edward Davis and Mark Addy to better understand these momentous occurrences and their implications.
Harrow Harkonnen’s Big Failure Could Be A Huge Opportunity
In the realm of “Dune: Prophecy”, Harrow Harkonnen (Edward Davis), initially appears as one of the least culpable figures amidst the chaos. His aunt, Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson), who holds a position similar to Mother Superior, grants him every desire when he’s summoned to the Landsraad. However, tragedy strikes in dramatic fashion due to Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmell) employing his supernatural abilities to slay nearly all of the noble houses’ attendees in the galaxy.
During our chat at the latest Dune: Prophecy press event with both Davis and Mark Addy, I gained more insights about the storyline. Regarding the fate of Harrow, this is what Edward Davis shared with me at TopMob:
In just a blink of an eye, Harrow plunges from his peak to his trough. This remarkable chance comes his way, though it may be unbeknownst to him, but he’s being manipulated for someone else’s gain. It seems to me that he views this as his own failure and carries a heavy burden of self-imposed high standards. When he stumbles over his words and Inez jumps in, I suspect he’ll lay the blame on himself for that as well.
The information available suggests that the Landsraad, in Dune: Prophecy, served as the Harkonnen family’s key to regaining their former status. Now, with Emperor Javicco Corrino releasing his agent of chaos towards this very council, a clear warning has been given. This warning, without a doubt, disturbs Valya’s aspirations for control.
As a dedicated fan, I must say that Harrow Harkonnen might still have some surprises up his sleeve. From Edward Davis’ latest insights, it seems that Harrow has likely discovered the core of agony that will guide his future moves. Therefore, the upcoming two episodes appear to be pivotal in understanding his next steps.
Let’s shift our focus towards Evgeny Harkonnen (Mark Addy), who has consistently shown an unsupportive demeanor towards Valya and a mocking attitude towards Harrow, serving as a lesson on how not to treat family members. His most recent lesson was delivered in “Twice Born,” and his actions have certainly set the stage for a profound final thought process that is currently unfolding.
Evgeny Harkonnen’s Final Thoughts On The Future Of The Harkonnens
To put any speculation about Sister Emeline’s fate in “Dune: Prophecy” that surfaced last week to rest, let me clarify that Evgeny Harkonnen has indeed passed away. Mark Addy, who has previous experience from “Game of Thrones”, confirmed this himself, and I stand by his statement.
Following his scathing criticism towards two portrayals of Valya on-screen, Addy expressed these remarks as the last thoughts of Evgeny Harkonnen.
It appears he’s fixated on the belief that Valya is responsible for all the misfortunes faced by the Harkonnens, an obsession that has dominated his existence over the past three decades.
Although Prophecy has achieved an unprecedented level of success, it remains uncertain if a Season 2 will materialize. The future of the Harkonnens thus hangs in the balance. The looming enigma surrounding Desmond Hart adds another layer of complexity to the Imperium’s fate, making anything possible.
On Sunday night at 9 PM ET, I can’t wait to dive deeper into the story with Episode 106 – “In Blood, Truth” airing on HBO. If you don’t have cable, don’t worry! You can still join us on this rollercoaster ride of a family saga by subscribing to Max. No one should miss out on what might unfold next!
