As a long-time fan of Keanu Reeves‘ work, I can attest to his exceptional performances, with John Wick standing out among them. His portrayal of the titular character is nothing short of phenomenal, and it’s no wonder fans are eagerly anticipating more. However, hearing about his knees holding him back from reprising the role brings a tinge of relatability that I can’t ignore.
Keanu Reeves has captivated audiences for years with numerous memorable roles, but none quite compare to his portrayal of John Wick in the movies bearing his name. It’s no secret that playing these characters requires a great deal of effort, and fans can’t help but wonder if another film will be made. During a recent interview, Reeves shed light on this question, offering an honest response.
In 2023, the latest addition to the “John Wick” series, titled “John Wick: Chapter 4”, hit the screens. Given how popular and tough the character of John Wick (or Baba Yaga) is, it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly anticipating his return. Lately, Keanu Reeves has been interviewed by CBS Mornings, where he was questioned about reprising his role as Wick. It seems that Reeves is keen to take on the role again, but there appears to be a snag: the actor’s availability or commitment for the project.
While I’d love to join you for another action-packed movie night like John Wick, my current knee condition is giving me pause. However, as the saying goes, “never say never,” so my heart is hopeful, but I need to be mindful of my physical limits.
Speaking as a fellow admirer, if that’s not a relatable sentiment, I’m not sure what is! As of now, I’m fortunate enough to say that my knees are giving me no trouble, but I can see that changing in the future. Frankly, I’m amazed that Keanu Reeves, the 60-year-old star of Bill & Ted, has managed to keep his knees going this long. The action legend has already done some incredible work with his legs, and that was even before he became Mr. Wick. So, while Reeves still seems eager to play the Matrix character, it seems he’ll need to assess his physical capabilities for the role.
More on John Wick
Intriguingly, it’s worth pondering how different the character John Wick could have been if Bruce Willis had taken on the role instead of Keanu Reeves.
In the enigmatic finale of “John Wick: Chapter 4”, it appears that our titular assassin might have perished, but whispers about a sixth film persist. Regarding “John Wick 5”, its director Chad Stahelski is open to the idea, yet he desires to create a story worthy of viewers’ time. Currently, there’s no definite fifth installment planned for the series, but fans can anticipate another encounter with John in the upcoming spinoff titled “Ballerina“, which unfolds between the happenings of the third and fourth “Wick” movies.
Currently, Keanu Reeves is immersing himself in an exciting new character that promises to be well-loved by audiences. He’s set to appear in the eagerly awaited movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, where he assumes the role of the villainous Shadow the Hedgehog. Reeves was praised for his fitting portrayal of the stoic character, and it appears that he’s really enjoying the part. During a recent interview with CBS Mornings alongside director Jeff Fowler, Reeves openly shared his enthusiasm about the freedom his new voice role offers him.
I’m pleased that the ‘Speed’ character has taken on a new role he enjoys, although I can’t deny that I’d love to see him reprise John Wick someday. Whether that comes to pass remains to be seen. If it does, I’ll be crossing my fingers for his continued good health and strong knees.
Catch “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” when it hits cinemas on December 20, 2024. In the meantime, fans can enjoy the first three installments of “John Wick” for free on Pluto TV, and the fourth one with a Starz subscription.
