As a gamer who’s lived through the golden age of early 2000s pop culture, I can’t help but feel nostalgic and excited about Chad Michael Murray and Lindsay Lohan teaming up again for “Freakier Friday.” The fact that they’re reuniting not just in a movie, but in a sequel to the iconic 2003 film, is like finding an old, dusty copy of my favorite game from back then.
Chad Michael Murray is in his Christmas era.
The actor spoke candidly to People magazine about the experience of releasing “The Merry Gentlemen” on Netflix, coinciding with the premiere of “Our Little Secret,” starring Lindsay Lohan, on the streaming platform.
Earlier this year, Murray and Lohan came together for the movie “Freakier Friday.” Now, the star of “One Tree Hill” expresses a desire to keep collaborating with the actress in future projects.
As a fan, I’d jump at the chance to collaborate again on another holiday movie, especially if Lindsay Lohan was my co-star. It would be fantastic if we could reunite after our recent filming experience, both of us celebrating two Christmas movies on the same platform – Netflix. The fact that they’re only a week or two apart is quite cool indeed!
He added, “During Freaky Friday 2, we were rather scattered. But to have the chance to focus on a project where it’s just her and me, bearing the weight of the story, and both our families being able to join us on set, would create something truly heartwarming.
The sequel of “Freaky Friday” brings back Murray and Lohan as Jake and Anna, characters they played in the 2003 movie. Additionally, Jamie Lee Curtis is coming back to play Tess, just like Mark Harmon, Rosalind Chao, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong and Stephen Tobolowsky. The new additions to the series are Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
In the upcoming movie, we’ll catch up with Anna and Tess after twenty years since the initial film. Now, Anna has a daughter and is about to gain a stepdaughter. As both families work through the hurdles of blending their lives, the pairing of Anna and Tess discovers that fate might repeat itself.
Despite our periods of separation, we’ve been acquainted for around two decades, correct? Murray expressed this sentiment while discussing their collaboration on the sequel. Witnessing her growth, meeting her son, and getting to know her husband are experiences that feel particularly poignant now that we’re both mature adults. There’s a sense of completion about these moments, as if everything has come full circle.
Freakier Friday hits theaters on Aug. 8.
