Vivek Oberoi claims actors have to maintain certain lifestyle despite financial struggles: ‘Dalal-roti chalani hai, EMI bharna hai’

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I have always admired the resilience and grit of actors like Vivek Oberoi, who have navigated through the highs and lows of their careers with grace and determination. His recent revelations at the Franchise India event about the challenges faced by actors, especially during financial crises, resonate deeply with me.

Vivek Oberoi experienced a tough ride in Bollywood, marked by peaks and valleys. Lately, this performer shared insights into the less discussed struggles actors face, including the need to uphold a specific image, particularly when grappling with economic hardship.

At the latest Franchise India gathering, Vivek Oberoi reminisced about the ups and downs encountered during his acting journey, offering insights gleaned from these experiences.

Speaking metaphorically, he likened the movie business to a thrilling roller coaster ride. He explained that triumphs in this industry can give you an exhilarating sense of being on top, with the whole world seeming to cheer you on. However, experiencing a downturn or failure can be just as challenging and disorienting.

The actor from Masti admitted that his professional journey taught him how swiftly circumstances can shift for an artist, often causing a significant financial strain. Oberoi disclosed that he gauged his achievements by the quantity of bouquets he received on his birthday.

When things are going great for you, there’s no room left in your home for the flowers sent by producers, directors, and co-stars because they keep pouring in; it’s simply overflowing. Conversely, when your films aren’t successful, the number of flowers decreases, making you reflect, “Oh, maybe I’m not doing so well after all.” He put it that way.

Vivek talked about how Bollywood actors are obligated to uphold a particular lifestyle due to societal expectations, but it carries a significant cost. Yet, this realization motivated him to shape his career in business rather than produce films merely for financial reasons.

Today, I feel empowered as I can choose not to be a part of a film project that doesn’t resonate with me or align with my beliefs because I need to focus on managing my personal responsibilities such as maintaining my home and paying off my debts.

While many people may believe that acting comes with a carefree existence, he clarified that this is far from the truth. Actors face unique difficulties, as they’re expected to uphold a particular lifestyle. This expectation often leads to significant social pressure and financial strain, as maintaining such a lifestyle can be costly.

In my professional journey, I recently appeared in Rohit Shetty’s online series titled ‘Indian Police Force’, sharing the screen with Siddharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.
