As someone who has been following the WWE for over two decades now, I must say that Saturday Night’s Main Event was a blast from the past, and it feels like we’ve turned back the clock to the ’90s with this comeback. The return of Cody Rhodes and the unexpected confrontation between Kevin Owens and Triple H had me on the edge of my seat!
For the first time in many years, WWE staged a Saturday Night’s Main Event, setting the stage for its future television lineup in 2025. This broadcast offered fans a sneak peek into the structure of upcoming WWE events, although viewers at home on NBC or Peacock missed out on certain aspects. A unique finale was reserved for the live audience, leaving one to speculate if a retired superstar might be gearing up for a return to the ring.
TopMob’s predictions for Saturday Night’s Main Event were spot-on, but even we didn’t anticipate the shocking turn of events at the show’s finale. For those who haven’t caught it yet, let me share what unfolded, and I can’t help but ponder if this might signal a comeback from a Superstar we believed had hung up their wrestling boots for good.
Kevin Owens Hit Cody Rhodes With A Pildriver, Leading To A Confrontation With Triple H
As a devoted fan, I’m still reeling from Cody Rhodes’ title retention at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, his joy didn’t last long. Just as he was about to express gratitude to the spirited Long Island crowd and acknowledge their support, suddenly, out of nowhere, Kevin Owens struck! The Undisputed WWE Champion was ambushed, and before we could catch our breath, he took a brutal piledriver. Here’s the shocking footage:
It’s no shock to find Kevin Owens acting as a poor sport after losing, resorting to underhanded tactics like that. What’s unexpected, though, is that when KO got to the ramp’s edge, he encountered CEO and ex-WWE champion Triple H. Watch them engage in a heated verbal exchange before Owens leaves, followed by a physical altercation:
Having been involved in reporting about pro wrestling for quite some time, I found myself drawn to that particular incident. What’s going on between Triple H and Kevin Owens? Could this be a sign that The Game is contemplating a real return to the ring, with the intention of dealing with one of the more notorious troublemakers in the WWE?
Is Triple H Planning To Return To The Ring?
Paul “Triple H” Levesque has been absent from WWE wrestling since a heart condition necessitated surgery. There was a time when it appeared he might exit professional wrestling altogether, but he eventually resumed his corporate responsibilities and even assumed creative leadership of the company following Vince McMahon’s departure. The heart attack denied him an official retirement match as a farewell in the ring, leading me to speculate if he might arrange one with Kevin Owens at WrestleMania.
It seems quite plausible, given that Owens is a seasoned WWE performer with a strong history, and his past encounter with Stone Cold Steve Austin during WrestleMania 38’s impromptu retirement match. Historically, wrestlers tend to challenge retired superstars and try to belittle them. Could Triple H potentially be the next target?
I’ve got a feeling something might be up with him, given that Triple H hasn’t been involved in any on-screen brawls for some time now. Typically, it would be either Nick Aldis or Adam Pearce stepping forward to reprimand the villain, while Triple H stays out of sight unless there’s a major announcement to make. I’m not completely certain they’ll face off at WrestleMania 41, but it seems like something worth paying attention to.
People who didn’t catch Saturday Night’s Main Event last weekend can catch up on it via Peacock. I’m really looking forward to more episodes of the show in 2025, and I hope that any wrestling enthusiasts who tuned in were as excited as I was to watch!
