As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant world of OutKast’s music, I can’t help but feel a twinge of sadness hearing André 3000‘s words. It’s like the final boss in a game you’ve been playing for years has suddenly announced retirement without any new levels or upgrades.
Andre 3000 has voiced his opinions regarding potential new OutKast projects, expressing that it’s unlikely we’ll see a new album or a tour in the future.
3 Stacks shared with Rolling Stone that there could have been a new OutKast endeavor about 10 to 15 years back, but he and Big Boi are currently more distant from such a project than ever before. He elaborated, “I believe it’s all about the chemistry. We need to feel the desire to do it. For me, creating rap music is challenging, and at times I lean towards the idea of ‘Let things unfold naturally.’
He further explained that while OutKast’s collaboration was exceptionally strong at that point, he believes no form of art should endure indefinitely. He likened it to a product, saying that although we provided a product, the essence of that product was a specific moment in our lives. The artist from New Blue Sun also pointed out that they aren’t like Coca-Cola, with a consistent formula for production. Instead, he thinks the audience might feel that way, but they’re unaware of the effort and time it takes to create what they consume. He doesn’t blame them for this lack of understanding.
It appears that a farewell tour may not be happening due to the fact that OutKast songs necessitate a specific level of energy which André 3000 no longer wishes to maintain on stage at this stage in life. In his own words, “I’m not particularly fond of looking back.” He continued, “I’m simply not. I’m grateful for everything that has transpired, but it was a period. To me, that’s what it is. That was a fantastic time, and I wish you were there to experience it with us.
