American Cinematheque to Honor Artists Behind ‘Wicked,’ ‘Dune: Part Two,’ ‘Challengers’

As a film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the magical world of cinema, I must say that the American Cinematheque‘s fourth annual “Tribute to the Crafts” is an event I eagerly anticipate each year. The honorees for this year are simply breathtaking, a veritable who’s who of behind-the-scenes wizards whose work has graced some of my all-time favorite films.

Artists who work unseen in films like “Dune: Part Two”, “Wicked” and “Challengers” are among those being honored at American Cinematheque’s fourth annual “Tribute to the Crafts”. This event will take place on January 9th at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Event hosts Stephanie Allain and Paula Wagner will be overseeing the ceremony. This gathering aims to applaud and acknowledge individuals across 12 distinct categories, while also showcasing snippets of their accomplishments. The recipients of this honor include choreographer Emilia Pérez, cinematographer Damien Jalet from ‘Nickel Boys’, costume designer Jomo Fray, and Paul Tazewell who has worked on ‘Wicked’.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been recognized by the American Cinematheque for my long-standing career in cinematography! With over 80 credits spanning five decades, it’s an honor to be receiving the Career Achievement Award. Some of my notable works include collaborating with Sofia Coppola on “The Virgin Suicides,” Steven Soderbergh on “Erin Brockovich,” Todd Haynes on “Far from Heaven” and “Carol,” and Pablo Larraín on “El Conde.” Most recently, I had the pleasure of working with Larraín again on his latest film, “Maria,” where Angelina Jolie portrays the legendary opera singer Maria Callas. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment of it!

In his statement, Grant Moninger, the Artistic Director of the American Cinematheque, expressed that filmmaking is a highly collaborative artistic endeavor. He’s delighted that the American Cinematheque has the opportunity to honor the crucial contributions made by the artists and technicians responsible for creating this year’s outstanding films.

According to the organization, “Tribute to The Craft” acknowledges individuals who lie at the core of movie-making and have demonstrated exceptional talent in their roles behind the camera within the last year.
