As a gamer who has grown up with the iconic “Karate Kid” franchise, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming film, “Karate Kids: Legends.” The trailer alone sent chills down my spine, and seeing Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan together on the big screen is nothing short of a dream come true.
In the first trailer for “Karate Kids: Legends,” we see that two master teachers, rather than one, could be more advantageous. This movie brings together various generations from the series.
In a new and exciting twist, the star of both the original trilogy and the Netflix series “Cobra Kai,” Ralph Macchio, teams up with Jackie Chan, who portrayed Karate instructor Mr. Han in the 2010 “Karate Kid” film.
Jonathan Entwistle serves as director for the series titled “Legends“. In this production, Ben Wang portrays a young karate student. Additionally, Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, Ming-Na Wen, Aramis Knight, and Wyatt Oleff are also part of the cast. The script was penned by Rob Lieber.
Originally, the film titled “Karate Kid” emerged as a surprise success in 1984, with Ralph Macchio portraying Daniel LaRusso, an underdog from the East Coast who relocated to San Fernando Valley. Under the guidance of Mr. Miyagi (played by Pat Morita), he overcomes the odds and eventually becomes a champion. The story continued in two more films, and later, a fourth film featuring Hilary Swank. In 2010, a new version was released with Jaden Smith sharing the screen with Jackie Chan.
Meanwhile, Cobra Kai initially debuted on YouTube Red in 2018 before moving to Netflix. On this new platform, it found great success and is now preparing to wrap up with the last installment of season six episodes in February.
Karate Kid: Legends arrives from Columbia and Sony on May 30.
