Mike Tyson Docuseries In the Works at Netflix

As a seasoned gamer and boxing enthusiast with a knack for binge-watching documentaries, I am absolutely thrilled about Mike Tyson‘s upcoming documentary series on Netflix. The man’s life story is as intriguing as a high-stakes, nail-biting game of chess, filled with triumphs, trials, and twists that would make any player pause to marvel at the sheer drama unfolding.

In mere weeks following Mike Paul’s boxing match that smashed streaming viewership benchmarks, Netflix has announced plans for a documentary series centered around Mike Tyson.

The series will be produced using Tyson’s complete collaboration, and it will showcase not just his ring victories, but also his personal hardships. These challenges have made him a captivating and divisive figure in today’s society.

In his own words, Tyson expressed that while he may collaborate, he plans to examine his complex existence in an unbiased manner.

Tyson expressed that it would be both challenging and inviting for him to tell his life story in a multi-part documentary on Netflix, viewing his journey through the perspective of growth and maturity. Most people are often hesitant to examine their lives impartially, preferring to portray themselves as the protagonist of their own tale. However, if we’re honest with ourselves, we recognize that we can never be the hero in our personal narrative. Instead, it requires facing oneself honestly, acknowledging both the good and the bad to provide a comprehensive account of one’s impact during their lifetime. Netflix, with its vast global audience, is an ideal platform for sharing such a story.

This series delves into the life story of a boxer, starting from his extraordinary rise to fame as the “Baddest Man on the Plane,” followed by his personal challenges such as time in prison, financial troubles, substance abuse issues, and heated ring controversies. However, it also chronicles his journey towards redemption, revealing the man behind the gloves.

The three-part series is being developed by EverWonder Studio, DLP Media Group, Five All In The Fifth, with Floyd Russ taking the roles of both director and executive producer, while Ian Orefice from EverWonder Studio, Jim Gray from Scratchy Productions, Michael Hughes and Greg C. Lake from DLP Media Group, and Douglas Banker from Five All In The Fifth are serving as executive producers.

Netflix has emerged as the preferred destination for sports documentary series, boasting popular titles such as Drive to Survive, Full Swing, Receiver, Simone Biles Rising, and Enigma: Aaron Rodgers. These shows have garnered significant audiences and sparked renewed curiosity about their respective athletic domains and personalities.

The Jake Paul boxing event attracted massive viewership on Netflix, hinting at its potential as a significant force in sports. However, it faced criticism for being an unbalanced match due to Tyson’s age and health concerns. Following the bout, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions issued a statement denying allegations that the fight was fixed, as they were aiming for a longer-term partnership with Netflix.

EverWonder, a key player in the production of the fight, is additionally involved in creating the Tyson documentary series.
