As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for thrilling narratives and a knack for spotting potential blockbusters, I find myself intrigued by the acquisition of “200 Monas” by Amazon MGM. The blend of Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Uncut Gems sounds like an explosive cocktail, promising edge-of-the-seat suspense and a dash of unpredictability – much like the games I used to play late into the night.
As a gamer, I’d be all hyped up if I heard the news that Amazon MGM scooped up “200 Monas,” the first novel from Jan Saenz, which is being marketed as a mashup of “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Uncut Gems.” With Imagine Entertainment jumping on board to produce, I can only imagine the thrilling ride this story is going to take us on!
200 Monas tells the story of a college senior who has 48 hours to offload her late mother’s unusual pharmaceutical stock, known for its astonishing side effects. She turns to a compassionate local drug dealer for assistance in completing this task. Earlier this month, Little Brown secured Saenz’s book for publication.
Saenz is set to take on the role of an executive producer, while Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody will produce. Notably, Brody and Joyce Choi are responsible for supervising the project on behalf of Imagine.
In its partnership with Amazon MGM, Imagine is set to produce approximately 200 projects, having collaborated with the studio on films like Thirteen Lives and documentaries such as Judy Blume Forever. At present, they are jointly developing the upcoming film After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino, which features Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield in lead roles.
Choi and Alexa Marcasciano spearheaded the acquisition process for Imagine, while Saenz is managed by CAA and Jessica Spitz at Janklow & Nesbit. On the other hand, Imagine is also represented by CAA.
