Amy Hennig Talks a Good Story For Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the announcement of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of Amy Hennig, the mastermind behind the Uncharted series, bringing her storytelling genius to the Marvel universe is a match made in gaming heaven.

In addition to the launch of Marvel Rivals this year, Marvel Games has also revealed that they’re collaborating with director Amy Hennig from Uncharted on a Captain America/Black Panther game titled Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.

Despite no fresh insights into the game’s specifics being shared during The Game Awards, Hennig did disclose certain narrative elements, including the game’s backdrop and the struggle between Captain America and Wakanda.

The Plot of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

During a chat with Entertainment Weekly, Hennig provides a brief overview of the plot in Rise of Hydra, as well as the initial positions of the characters.

The progression of the game prompted us to undertake several intriguing tasks… among them was crafting a narrative centered around a young Steve Rogers, who is yet to find his stride rather than the experienced character we’ve seen in numerous films. Additionally, it allowed us to introduce a new Black Panther from 1943.

The game is labeled as an exciting journey that spans across various global locations. One intriguing destination connected to the storyline is the hidden city of Wakanda, safeguarded by the Black Panther. In the game Rise of Hydra, Azuri, T’Challa’s grandfather, holds the title at present.

The nation has a reputation for being extremely secretive, yet it may find itself unwillingly entwined within the narrative. This could happen if Hydra uncovers this elusive country during their pursuit of Vibranium. As Hennig continues…

At present, Wakanda remains secluded within an invincible forest barrier, keeping it isolated from global sightings… Despite their neutral stance, unavoidable circumstances thrust them into turmoil. They must defend their values. The globe is shrinking rapidly. No satellite imagery as of now, but that may change soon. You can bring down aircraft attempting to invade Wakandan airspace, but for how long can they remain concealed?

Black Panther v Captain America

Initially, Black Panther and Captain America might be labeled as heroes, but they won’t find themselves on the same side at the start of the game. In fact, they begin in a state of conflict with one another. As Hennig explains, though both characters share common enemies and are affected by similar events, they initially work almost cross-purposes. However, good must unite to defeat evil, so if these individuals split apart, they won’t be successful.

Besides BP and Cap, the game also introduces viewpoints from two additional characters. One character is Gabriel Jones, an American military sniper who belongs to the Howling Commandos. The other is Nanali, a Wakandan spy stationed in Nazi-controlled Paris.

A Cinematic Experience

Known primarily for her contributions to the Uncharted series, players are anticipating Marvel 1943 to be a visually stunning platformer. It’s intriguing that this game is set to debut around the same time as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle; a franchise whose globe-trotting, tomb raiding escapades strongly resemble the adventures of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted films.

So far, no details about gameplay have emerged, but we might see a new trailer dropping soon, potentially around the same time as the release of “Captain America: Brave New World” in February 2025.

Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for the game “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra“, yet enthusiasts remain optimistic that it might be launched some time in the upcoming year.
