As a film enthusiast who’s spent countless hours debating theories and dissecting trailers, I can say with certainty that the upcoming 2025-2026 movie schedule is my personal dream come true! The confirmation of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’s release date has set my heart racing faster than an Infected on a sugar rush.
As a lifelong film enthusiast who grew up with VHS tapes and late-night cable screenings, I can confidently say that the upcoming 2025 movie schedule is nothing short of a dream come true for me. From eagerly anticipated sequels like “Paddington in Peru,” “Downton Abbey 3,” and “Tron: Ares” to the chilling first trailer of “28 Years Later,” it’s clear that this year promises to be a golden era for cinema.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple Is Coming Sooner Than You Think
It’s an exciting moment indeed, as the title and release date for the second film in the planned trilogy have been confirmed! According to a press release from Sony Pictures, we can look forward to experiencing 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple on the big screen on January 16, 2026. This new development supports another theory I’ve been contemplating about the story.
The timing of that announcement seems incredibly appropriate, as it appears the first footage of 28 Years Later might have revealed the infamous Bone Temple! Upon close examination of the lead picture and the accompanying image, it certainly seems to be what we’re looking at.
The sequel directed by Nia DaCosta is set to hit theaters around 10 months after Danny Boyle’s first installment premieres next summer, specifically on June 20, 2025. This isn’t particularly shocking news given that Ralph Fiennes’ latest adaptation of 28 Years Later hinted at the completion of two out of three films scripted by Alex Garland.
The surprise lies in the announcement of a release date, approximately seven months following the initial release of the first installment. Although it might not match the swiftness of the original plan for Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga, it’s still notable given the long wait we’ve had for this project to materialize over the years.
As a movie lover, I’m optimistic about the possibility of catching a glimpse into the turbulent journey of Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jodie Comer in their so-called “road trip from hell.” These latest updates have given me a hint of what we might uncover in the upcoming disclosures for The Bone Temple.
We May Now Know How 28 Years Later’s Trilogy Story Is Structured
Currently, I find it necessary to bring up a theory penned by my coworker and fellow “28 Days Cycle” enthusiast, Nick Venable. His perspective is that the character Jodie Comer might portray in “28 Years Later” could be Hannah, the survivor who eludes death alongside Jim (Cillian Murphy) and Selena (Naomie Harris) in the original “28 Days Later”. This character, one of “The Manchester Three”, was initially played by Megan Burns. If this theory holds true, it may serve as a reintroduction to Hannah’s character.
With Nia DaCosta, director of Candyman, joining the project, it’s clear that Naomie Harris’ tenacious heroine is set to make her comeback in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Given its release date on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend in 2026, this title seems fitting as it showcases a strong African-American lead and horror legend Selena, making for an exciting horror experience.
It’s evident from hints that the third, untitled “28 Years Later” sequel will delve into what I’m suggesting. If the first two installments focused on Hannah and Selena, then it seems plausible that the final chapter will revolve around my theory concerning Cillian Murphy’s return in “28 Years Later”. After all, why else would there be such a metallic object, strategically positioning three skulls within a biohazard symbol?
In simpler terms, we’re now at the point where it would perfectly fit for the climactic scene we’ve been anticipating in the first two parts of this larger narrative to unfold. However, it seems we must exercise patience as the much-anticipated sequel with an apocalyptic theme appears to be playing a prolonged game of strategic promotion.
There’s still ample opportunity to fine-tune this theory, given there are likely many more hints to come before the June 2025 release of “28 Years Later.” Although “28 Weeks Later” will be departing from Hulu at the end of this month, the reappearance of “28 Days Later” for digital rental or purchase can help fill the gap in its availability.
