As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that the gaming world has seen its fair share of ups and downs. The recent buzz surrounding the Marvel vs. Capcom collection rekindled hopes for a new game, but alas, it seems Capcom is taking their sweet time. However, in the spirit of community-driven innovation, a dedicated group of fans have breathed new life into Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite with the Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond mod.
This year’s launch of the Marvel vs. Capcom collection has sparked speculation among fans that a fresh game announcement might be imminent.
Although Capcom seems to be holding back on new projects for now, some enthusiastic fans have unveiled a passionate custom modification, dubbed “Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond,” that noticeably enhances the original gameplay of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond
The modification is compatible with the Steam edition of MVCI. However, it’s necessary to buy the base game to enjoy playing it.
The official description reads:
Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond is a massive fan project offering fresh graphics, gameplay options, tunes, balance adjustments, and much more. Important to note: this isn’t an authentic product by Capcom or Marvel Games.
Over a period of eight months, this modification was built with the collective effort of almost forty individuals. Remarkably, it’s available for absolutely no cost! The only thing players need to acquire is the base game.
What Features are in MVCIB?
Initially, there were 30 characters in the MVCI lineup, however, Beyond promises an expansion to 36 playable characters. The game additionally offers fresh visual enhancements, including a revamped art style, vibrant color schemes, and unique costumes for certain heroes.
The developers have also updated some of the stages, with some reflecting locations from way before MVC entered its 3D era.
Beyond just cosmetics, the game has been fine-tuned for each character, a process that was informed by the developers’ internal group of MVC enthusiasts. Notably, this mod introduces a central four-player tag team mechanic, which is a key feature in the MVC series.
Original Reception
As a devoted fan, I must admit that while Marvel vs. Capcom is undeniably a beloved franchise in the gaming world, many of us were left feeling underwhelmed when Infinite debuted in 2017. The game garnered acclaim for its innovative mechanic that allowed players to select Infinity Stones to aid them in combat, but it fell short in terms of its new visual style. This fresh aesthetic was met with criticism by several reviewers who found it lackluster and uninspiring.
As a passionate gamer, I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the roster for this latest installment. It seems like the number of playable characters is significantly lower compared to its prequel, and quite a few of them appear to be revamped versions from the initial game.
Given its enthusiastic user base, developing a mod for MVCI sounds like an excellent enhancement to the game. With the latest collection’s launch creating quite a buzz, many fans have been speculating about Capcom potentially releasing the next mainline sequel soon. It has indeed been seven years since the last installment hit the market.
It’s uncertain whether Capcom has any plans in the pipeline, but this mod clearly showcases the game’s widespread appeal among fans. Here’s hoping that this encourages more people to give the game a first-time try.
The Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite & Beyond Mod is now available for download.
