Prior to this incident, Chase had served in Afghanistan and chose to live off the grid since then.
In a turn of events, Chase is compelled to reactivate himself and flee as FBI Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper (John Lithgow) is assigned to track down and capture the renegade fugitive. The two share a complex past that stretches back to their time collaborating during the Soviet-Afghan War, which adds an extra layer of complexity to their current situation. As Chase strives to keep one step ahead of both Harper and the cold-blooded assassin hired to eliminate him, he secures temporary lodging from Zoe McDonald (Amy Brenneman). In due course, Zoe proves to be a reliable ally for Chase and even participates in his thrilling quest to evade the harmful forces pursuing him.
