As a seasoned cinephile with decades of experiencing sifting through the murky waters of Hollywood scandals, I must say that the recent allegations against director Justin Baldoni and his response to the lawsuit filed by Blake Lively is nothing short of intriguing.
Following the premiere of the 2024 film “It Ends with Us”, star and producer Blake Lively has filed a lawsuit against her co-star and director Justin Baldoni due to alleged sexual harassment incidents on set. In response to these accusations, Baldoni’s legal team has released a statement denying any wrongdoing. Interestingly, conversations from Baldoni’s crisis management team have been leaked, which mention Taylor Swift on several occasions.
How Justin Baldoni Reacted To The Lawsuit Filed Against Him
Justin Baldoni is at present represented by Bryan Freedman, an entertainment lawyer. As reported by The New York Times, Freedman declared that the allegations are “entirely untrue, excessively sensational, and deliberately scandalous, aimed at causing public harm and perpetuating a sensationalized narrative in the media.” Although the attorney did not directly address the on-set misconduct accusations, he did state that Baldoni spread “detrimental and entirely fabricated and false tales with the media.
During the filming of “It Ends with Us”, it’s said that Blake Lively participated in an urgent meeting to tackle the reported conduct of a former “Jane the Virgin” cast member. According to her lawsuit, Lively aimed to stop the director from bringing up his past sexual activities on set, including questions about crew members’ private parts, discussing his previous “pornography addiction”, and more. Furthermore, Lively alleged that the director of “Clouds” orchestrated a campaign to defame her using “social manipulation” and caused her significant emotional distress.
So far, Justin Baldoni’s team has disputed the claim that he intentionally tarnished the ex-Gossip Girl star’s reputation. Nevertheless, the actress presented what she claims are emails from Baldoni’s crisis management team to support her argument. Interestingly, some of the names mentioned in these messages include Taylor Swift’s name.
Why Was Taylor Swift Mentioned In The Alleged Messages?
More on It Ends with Us
After the reported drama between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, take a look at how the director of “The It Ends With Us” celebrated the movie’s Video on Demand launch.
In her legal case, Blake Lively presented several pieces of evidence, one of which was an alleged email from a crisis management advisor of Justin Baldoni. According to Us Weekly, this email was supposedly sent on August 6th. The email discussed Baldoni’s situation and suggested that the team should take it very seriously due to the possibility of Willow (the singer) being involved. At one point in the email, the crisis manager wrote, “We’ve seen seemingly minor issues escalate dramatically due to social media or major crises have no impact on social media at all. It’s hard to predict at this stage. However, since Blake Lively shares some of the same fanbase as Baldoni, we will be treating it extremely seriously.
The star of “The Rhythm Section” made a complaint that also included alleged excerpts from a “scenario planning” document circulated among her “IEWU” director’s crisis management team. The document apparently suggested that during that period, the team would consider spreading rumors about the weaponization of feminism and claims that individuals such as Taylor Swift were using these strategies to “bully” their way to getting what they desired.
The friendship between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift is widely recognized by now, given their long-standing bond. Previously, rumors emerged suggesting that Swift might have played a part in the rumored feud between Lively and Justin Baldoni. According to sources, this was due to Swift being reportedly there for Lively as a source of comfort during the dispute. To date, Swift has remained silent on the leaked messages or the lawsuit as a whole.
Prior to the court case being filed, neither Justin Baldoni nor Blake Lively openly acknowledged any disputes between them. However, at one stage, Lively hinted at creative disagreements. The film “It End with Us,” which can now be streamed with a Netflix subscription, garnered mixed reviews despite earning over $350 million globally on a budget of approximately $25 million. As for the outcome of the legal scenario, it’s still uncertain.
