As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has spent countless hours huddled under blankets, munching popcorn, and losing myself in the silver screen magic, I must confess that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s choice of Christmas movies resonates deeply with my own. His preference for the edgier side of holiday cinema is something I wholeheartedly appreciate, as it mirrors my own taste for films that don’t shy away from the grittier aspects of life.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, known for his tough roles in Hollywood and WWE matches, isn’t always as formidable at home. This weekend, he shared on social media his list of three preferred Christmas movies, only to find himself repeatedly watching another one.
It seems that Johnson prefers movies with adult themes, such as Bad Santa, Goodfellas, and Scarface, for Christmas viewing. However, being a loving father, he usually gives in to his kids’ choices, which are typically Home Alone. A sweet video featuring Catherine O’Hara’s famous “KEVINNNNNNNN” scream from the movie, along with a selfie of him in Christmas pajamas, was shared as evidence. Take a look at the post below…

To begin with, you might find it hard to beat these four films when choosing a movie for your Christmas viewing. Without mentioning specific titles, I’m sure we can all recall some holiday movies that continue to be watched despite being rather subpar. These movies, however, are of high quality and have some tie to the Christmas season.
The most tenuous of those connections is, of course, Scarface, but people forget that movie was actually a huge winner over the Christmas season when it was released all the way back in 1983. Most of the country got it on December 9th, and it did big business throughout the rest of the year. It’s also inspired a bazillion Christmas sweaters and a bazillion and one cocaine-related jokes about snow. I personally don’t make a habit of watching it over the holidays, but if that’s your thing, I respect it.
Indeed, “Goodfellas” might not be conventionally categorized as a Christmas film, but given its Christmas-themed scenes and festive music, it certainly holds a special place for many viewers during the holiday season. Moreover, one of my favorite rapid-fire dialogue exchanges of all time occurs in this movie: after Robert De Niro’s character reprimands his associates for their extravagant post-heist purchases, there’s a quick cut to Ray Liotta, who is meant to be the more prudent one, exclaiming “I got the most expensive tree they had!” Hence, while it may not traditionally fit the Christmas movie mold, I have enjoyed watching “Goodfellas” during holiday breaks in the past.
I definitely don’t need to argue the merits of whether Bad Santa is a Christmas movie. No one has ever said otherwise, though I’ve discovered over the years that it’s a little more divisive than I would have guessed. It has a lot of supporters who can’t get enough of Billy Bob Thornton’s raunchy mall Santa, and it has a lot of detractors that think it’s a little unevenly paced and doesn’t have much going for it beyond the novelty of a foul-mouthed Santa. Personally, I like it, but that might be because I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan.
As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but reminisce about the delightful charm of the classic film, “Home Alone”. In my personal cinematic history, this movie holds a special place, having graced my screen no less than twenty times throughout my life. And every time someone mentions it, I find myself eager to revisit its timeless magic once more.
Absolutely, Dwayne Johnson (also known as The Rock) has a Christmas movie out at present too. Titled “Red One“, this film is currently topping streaming charts and amassing plenty of followers. If you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can watch it for free right now!
