Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ‘toned down’ her intelligence after finding fame feels Sona Mohapatra; says ‘she would giggle a lot’

As someone who has followed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s career since her Miss World days, I must admit that her journey from architecture to Bollywood stardom is nothing short of extraordinary. However, hearing Sona Mohapatra’s perspective on how she feels Aishwarya might have toned down her intelligence after finding fame, stirred a sense of nostalgia in me.

I remember the days when I saw Aishwarya, not just as a beautiful actress, but as an intelligent and articulate woman. Her charm lay not only in her stunning looks but also in her thoughtful words and profound insights. It’s unfortunate to think that the pressures of the entertainment industry might have forced her to change her demeanor.

That said, I don’t want to jump to conclusions. Perhaps Aishwarya was always a little diplomatic, and her giggles were just her way of expressing herself in a more approachable manner. After all, even the brightest stars can twinkle differently in the spotlight.

In the end, I can’t help but joke that if Aishwarya ever feels the need to shine her intelligence brighter again, she should consider making a cameo on Jeopardy! – because nothing says ‘I’m smart and I know it’ quite like dominating a trivia game show.

Over the past two decades, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been among the most prominent actresses in Bollywood, starting from her victory at the Miss World pageant. Since then, she’s starred in numerous hit movies in Indian cinema. Lately, singer Sona Mohapatra disclosed that she observed Aishwarya evolve over time and felt her personality transformed, as well as perceived a lessening of her intelligence following her rise to fame.

In a recent conversation on Love Lingo’s YouTube channel, Sona Mohapatra talked about some actors in the film industry who intentionally downplay their intelligence. As an example, she mentioned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and shared that she first encountered her when Sona was studying architecture at the Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture.

In that particular moment, the Naina singer deeply admired Bachchan for his beauty, intelligence, and eloquence. Yet, she observed a shift in his personality after he won the Miss World title and started appearing in prominent movies.

She remembered that she studied architecture and is older than me. They were classmates, but more than just acquaintances – they were like family friends. She was strikingly attractive, incredibly intelligent, articulate, and excelled in her studies. Eventually, she went on to become a notable figure.

Later on, Mohapatra found herself questioning if the woman from Dhoom 2 interviews was indeed the person she had known. She suggested that perhaps the demands of the entertainment industry had influenced her to come off as less confident and intellectually unassuming.

Sona stated, ‘Perhaps she always came across as diplomatic while laughing frequently. Perhaps this was just a phase for her. However, I couldn’t help but think, ‘She is an incredibly intelligent woman.’ In her line of work, though, it might be necessary for her not to appear too smart. I could be mistaken. She seemed to hold back.’

The performer noted that someone tends to thrive more within the entertainment industry if they seem somewhat vulnerable or dependent.

Initially, Aishwarya harbored dreams of becoming an architect and enrolled at the Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture. However, she eventually abandoned her academic path to delve into modeling, eventually winning the title of Miss World in 1994.

1997 saw Aishwarya Rai make her initial foray into acting with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil movie, Iruvar, followed by her entry into Bollywood with Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya. Over the years, she has graced numerous hit films such as Dhoom 2, Jodhaa Akbar, Guru, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, among others. Aishwarya Rai recently appeared in Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023) and is yet to announce any upcoming projects.
