As an ardent fan who has followed Mika Singh’s illustrious career and his contributions to Bollywood music, I must admit I was taken aback by his recent foray into producing a web series. However, after listening to his experience with Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover, I can’t help but feel a twinge of empathy for the singer-turned-producer.
Working in showbiz is not a walk in the park, as we all know, but this story seems to have taken the drama to a whole new level. The demands, delays, and refusals from the couple, despite being married, must have been challenging for Mika, especially considering he was new to production. It’s like they were playing a game of Bollywood charades, with Mika as the unsuspecting spectator.
And let’s not forget about the kissing scene debacle! I mean, if you can’t kiss on screen with your real-life partner, who can you kiss, right? It’s like they were making a Bollywood movie without any romance – a bit like trying to make a biryani without spices!
On a lighter note, I guess the moral of this story is: if you want to work with the stars, be prepared for some star-struck stumbles. After all, it seems even the moon can’t always shine brightly over Bollywood without a few clouds here and there!
In the bustling Hindi film industry, Mika Singh is recognized as one of its top vocalists, contributing his melodious voice to hits like “Jumme Ki Raat,” “Aaj ki Party,” “Mauja Hi Mauja,” and others. Lately, he shared that he embarked on a new venture – producing a web series featuring the real-life pair, Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover. Unfortunately, these actors caused quite a stir, insisting on individual rooms, and surprisingly refusing to perform a kissing scene together despite being married.
In a frank discussion during the podcast, Kadak and Mika Singh shared their difficult journey as a producer. They worked on a web series for MX Player in 2020 that was penned by filmmaker Vikram Bhatt. Initially, the project appeared captivating enough to grab the singer’s attention, but collaborating with Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover proved challenging.
Initially, Mika had intended to pair Karan Singh Grover with a new actor to keep the project’s costs manageable. However, Bipasha Basu pushed for inclusion in the cast. Since they were budget-friendly, the producers altered their strategy. Later on, their actions led to substantial delays and financial stress.
Mika stated that the project, initially planned to finish within three months, has been prolonged to last six months because of the series of events in their production. He reminded us that they dispatched a team of 50 to London for a shoot that was supposed to span a month, but due to numerous actor requests, it ended up taking twice as long.
He mentioned that he had reserved a single room for them as they were a married couple. However, they requested individual rooms instead, and subsequently asked to transfer to another hotel.
Additional hurdles were encountered in the production. Specifically, Karan Singh Grover sustained an injury to his leg while performing a stunt on set, which led to further delays in filming. Moreover, disputes emerged between the couple during the dubbing phase, using throat discomfort as a pretext to defer work responsibilities.
A significant debate arose concerning a passionate kissing moment within the television show. The artist behind the hit song “Mauja Hi Mauja” asserted that despite both actors having agreed to enact the scene through their contract, they subsequently declined to participate in it, despite being married in real life.
Singh, clearly upset by the situation, expressed that these actors generally work well with prominent studios like Dharma Productions. However, he found it puzzling as to why they exhibited such behavior when collaborating with smaller production companies, despite receiving payment for their efforts.
His encounter was so disheartening that he chose to cease creating further projects. “Now I advise others against filmmaking and, should they persist, to provide chances for novices,” he ultimately decided.
Actors Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover first crossed paths while working together on the show “Alone” back in 2015. After a lovely marriage ceremony in 2016, they are now proud parents to their daughter, Devi, who was born in 2022.
