As a lifelong Marvel fan who has eagerly anticipated every new addition to the ever-expanding Cinematic Universe, I must say that What If…? has truly captured my heart and imagination. The series finale, “What If… What If?”, was nothing short of spectacular, with its game-changing developments leaving me both heartbroken and exhilarated.
I’ve been watching Captain Carter’s journey over the past three seasons, and her heroic sacrifice in the series finale brought a bittersweet end to her arc. It was a fitting conclusion that resonated deeply, especially considering the significant losses she experienced throughout her life. I’ll miss Peggy dearly, but her death was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices heroes often have to make.
The Watcher’s evolution throughout What If…? has been one of the most intriguing aspects of the series for me. From his initial reluctance to interfere with events to his eventual decision to help shape the multiverse, Jeffrey Wright’s portrayal of Uatu has left an indelible mark on me. The notion of other Watchers adopting his approach is both exciting and terrifying, as it could bring great good but also unintended consequences.
One thing I can’t help but wonder is if we’ll see Kahhori, Storm, and Byrdie in upcoming Marvel movies. With their newfound powers as Watchers, they are formidable beings within the multiverse, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them pop up in the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
In a lighter note, I couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought of Uatu meeting Loki in a future installment – alas, it wasn’t meant to be this time around. But with bigger universe developments on the horizon, I have high hopes that we’ll see more of the Watcher and his fellow observers in the years to come. Until then, I’ll cherish the memories of What If…? and eagerly await the next chapter in the Marvel saga.
Beware! Important plot twists are coming up in the final episode of “What If…?” titled “What If… What If?”. Proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.
Be warned, significant surprises are approaching in the last episode of “What If…?”, named “What If… What If?”. Tread carefully if you don’t want any spoilers.
Marvel’s “What If…?” has concluded its three-season journey this weekend, wrapping up within the 2024 TV schedule and marking a significant end to a substantial part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Storyline – the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The series finale was packed with exciting twists and turns. A notable event was the demise of a crucial character that fans have followed for several years. This turn of events was quite shocking, but it leaves me wondering how the Watcher’s critical decisions might shape the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Which MCU Character Met Their Demise During What If…?’s Series Finale?
In this crucial part of the series, we find ourselves following immediately after the happenings from the second-to-last episode titled “What If… the Watcher Vanished?” This episode brought together Captain Peggy Carter, along with Kahhori, Byrdie the Duck, and Storm, who joined forces with Infinity Ultron. Their mission was to save the Watcher at his observatory, a being who had been subdued by higher powers for meddling with events across various realities. Unfortunately, Peggy attempted a rescue alone to protect her teammates, but she ended up getting captured instead.

In time, the surviving champions together with the altered Ultron reached the observatory. The once malevolent android ended up giving his life to stall the onslaught of Eminence, Incarnate and Executioner – the pupils of the Watchers. Yet, this isn’t the death scene we are concentrating on.
After battling against a set of cosmic entities, The Watcher, Carter, and their companions almost perished in the process. Yet, The Watcher somehow bestowed Peggy, Kahhori, Brydie, and Storm with the abilities that once belonged to Watchers, transforming them into omnipotent beings. In the climax of the story, the trio of Executioner, Incarnate, and Eminence could only be subdued by transferring them to a universe rebuilt by Strange Supreme, where the essence of the resurrected doctor could strip away their powers. Unfortunately, Peggy sacrificed her life to transport the group there.
As a long-time fan of Marvel’s animated series, I must admit that the departure of Captain Carter in the recent season finale was both heartbreaking and satisfying at the same time. Having followed her character’s journey over three seasons, it felt like a natural progression given her complex past filled with loss. It seemed fitting for her to make such a selfless sacrifice, especially as she played a significant role as one of the MCU’s first variants.
Throughout the series, I have come to appreciate Captain Carter’s strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Her decision to give up her life for the greater good resonated with me deeply, given my own experiences dealing with loss and hardship. In many ways, her heroic death brought a sense of closure to her character arc, tying up loose ends in a way that felt both poignant and fitting.
Of course, there is still much to discuss when it comes to the finale’s implications for the future of the series. But for now, I am left with a mix of emotions as I bid farewell to Captain Carter. Her memory will continue to live on in the Marvel Universe, and I am grateful for the impact she made during her time there. Rest in peace, Captain Carter – you truly were an inspiration.
The Watcher’s Choices Could Have Some Serious Ramifications
It’s clear that Jeffrey Wright’s character, The Watcher, has undergone significant transformations throughout What If…?. Initially, he strongly opposed meddling with timeline events. However, by Season 3, he started subtly influencing events when necessary. This led to confrontations with other multiverse observers, but after defeating them, he managed to persuade Eminence and the others to alter their method of observing the multiverse. Moreover, The Watcher restored his original name – Uatu.
As a long-time film enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in various cinematic universes, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe and trepidation at the idea of other Watchers following Uatu’s lead in monitoring the multiverse. Having witnessed the power that knowledge and responsibility can wield, I understand the potential benefits that come with adopting his ways – the ability to intervene when necessary and bring about great good. However, as someone who has also seen the unintended consequences of well-meaning actions gone awry, I cannot help but caution against such interference.
The multiverse is a delicate balance, and even the best intentions can lead to unforeseen repercussions. With Uatu’s allies potentially shifting the fabric of reality, we must be mindful of the potential consequences that could arise from our actions. It is a heavy burden to bear, but one that I believe must be shouldered with great care and caution. The multiverse deserves nothing less than the utmost respect and careful stewardship from its guardians, lest we inadvertently cause harm where we intended only to help.
As a die-hard fan, it’s mind-blowing to know that Kahhori, Storm, and Byrdie have joined the ranks of Watchers. I’ve always admired them as heroes, but their newfound power is sending shockwaves across the multiverse. These are some seriously potent beings we’re talking about here! I can’t help but speculate if we’ll see them in future Marvel films. While I still think The Watcher might make a live-action debut, I’m starting to ponder if these other characters could show up too. They seem like perfect fits for upcoming epics like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
It’s largely my assumption, but I can’t help feeling that we haven’t seen the last of The Watcher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Brad Winderbaum, a key figure at Marvel, hinted that this series was part of larger universe developments. Although the encounter between Uatu and Loki didn’t unfold as I had hoped, I was generally satisfied with how things concluded.
Yes, Captain Carter met her end, but there was an underlying sense of optimism in the finale, as Uatu seemed rejuvenated and hopeful about the future of the multiverse.
